86 RX7 Is this a good buy?? need opinions

A friend of mine knows this guy selling a rx7. I think this might be a good deal. But the only thing im concerned about is the mileage and the fuel leak. Is it a common problem to have a fuel leak on this model rx7? He said he beleives its from the fuel rails but he never really checked. Im goin to check it later on when i have time to go to his house. What else should i look for? Also the mileage is pretty high. should i be prepared to do a rebuild if i buy this, in the near future? he said he changes the oil every 2k. Other than that everything seems fine. Heres the messages he wrote on our local forums and thru email. Tell me what you guys think.

"Red 1986 RX-7 GXL
109,8xx miles
5-speed tranny
New Sunroof
New Door handles/locks
New retracting antenna
Includes additional hood (white)
A/C (needs recharge)
Kenwood CD player
12'' Kicker Subwoofer
Rust on fenders

Upgrades:
HKS Super Dragger Exhaust
Fuel/air guage
Intake"

"*EDIT* Okay there seems to be a problem as the car is leaking some gasoline. most likely the fuel rail. I really want to get rid of this car...first guy with $600. "

"car has about 109,000. rust is located on the fenders (normal on this model fc). see pics. gas seems to be leaking from the fuel rail...tho i'll hafta take a closer look to make sure. interior is in good condition. car is 5 spd. the engine is in very good condition, regular oil changes every 2000 miles."

all rx-7s have high mileage, so that shouldn't be a concern. Actually, 100k sounds kind of low to me... Fuel leaking might be from the FPD (fuel pulsation dampener), which is a problem all rx-7s have. Easy fix. Your choice of a new FPD or a banjo bolt. Discussion here: https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-gen-archive-72/skeptic-banjo-bolt-pd-elimination-mod-395021/
Or you might need to replace the fuel rails or hoses or something. Nothing you can't pick off a junkyard rx-7. I would care more about the rust than anything. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

for 600 thats a deal...if it runs. if it runs and drives then its a deal because the cost of a banjo bolt is nothing to fix the fuel leak.

You can see why he has another hood. The White hood can be sprayed red pretty easily but look for the white paint to be peeling off the the white hood. If this is the case you should have the white heed completly stripped before painting

The Rust is not good, you have to Cut it out entirely to stop the cancer. Nothing too hard for a body shop. And the fact that it is below your molding then you can paint just the lower parts=cheap

The FPD is not hard to fix either. The PD will cost around 175.

Other than that the car looks pretty clean. I'd buy it for 600. To get back to being really respectable you'll spend around 400-600=1200 overall investement. Not Bad.

The two things you should check on the motor is:
1) compression test (see the FAQ)
2) coolant system pressure test. This is to check to see if the motor has blown coolant seals. Water will seep into the combustion chambers if this si the case. This a common problem with RX7s If you're coolant system leaks you'll need a rebuild.

If those two things are OK, then your motor could possibly last another 100K

Sounds like a good deal, 109k miles is not high mileage for the car, I just got one with the same mileage. The rust is something you need to check deeply to see how bad it is

Check out the car to make sure there isn't any hidden also. Sometimes its the little things that end up biting you in the ***. But it sounds like a great deal, I'de jump all over it.

i bought my 1986 gxl for 800 with a coolant seal blown(yea f tat, and said there was less wrong with it than what i found when stripping ) but later found out when stripping the car he left about 500 bucks in the glove inside the car manual with a bunch of papers and had a t2 drivetrain when taking out the engine and trans and then i just laughed.
