'86 "phone dial" wheel ?'s

I recently pulled the phone dial wheels that came on a gsl-se parts car off to clean them up and put them on my daily driver gsl-se...One wheel is very shiny and smooth...all the other three are dull, textured, and grey...Were there two kinds made? Or does the dull, textured stuff come off somehow? The shiny one has the same dull, textured stuff inside the outer recess and inside the holes, but the whole outer surface is smooth and shiny and has the (factory?) concentric machine marks...Anyone have experience with these wheels?

I'm not 100% sure but I think in 88 the SE had polished DIAL wheels. I think all cars had the same rims just polished. My 88 GXL has polished wheels. So the one wheel you have must have been replaced. YOU should be able to find some of the polished wheels for cheap.

thanks for the reply, guys...I guess one is a different year polished one...Do the polished ones avail. in '88 still have the dull, textured finish inside the outer recess and inside the holes also? There is no way to make my dull, textured ones polished like the others? just wondering...

You would be better off trying to find a set of used polished wheels/.

Not true. I am pretty sure the write-up is still floating around here on how to turn your matte finish wheels into the 87.5 polished look.

I have to agree, I know that write-up is around here somewhere, and most used polished phone dials are going to be like mine (which you're welcome to buy). That is to say that they show their age.

I personally think you'd end up with a better product "shining" your dull ones than buying shiny ones unless you can find a pair of shiny ones that was very well kept.

Of course... why not just go 5 lug and put vert wheels on it? I was able to pick up all of the stuff fo a 5 lug conversion (roughly: rotors, hubs, calipers, brake lines, rims, tires) for $250 shipped, and they're in fair condition. I got 5 spoke GXL "deli slicers" instead of vert wheels because the guy only wanted $50 for all 4 with Yokohama's on them (the 5 lug stuff was 200 shipped, adding 50 for wheels and tires).
