86 GXL ?rebuild?

im getting an 86 gxl and it is possible that the engine needs to be rebuilt. would it be expensive to get a rebuild or could i put any other type of engine in there? i would like to put a t2 in there if i could, but im not sure what would be needed for that. what would be the best thing to do to get the car up and running good.

Well, I have an '86 GXL, and I inquired about getting a rebuild to some local rotary places. They said that using used rotor housings, and new hoses&lines, new apex seals and springs, new o-rings and some other parts would cost me about $1600 in CDN dollars. That was the cheapest I found.

thanks, what about putting a TII engine in it? might be able to find one cheap at a salvage yard, or maybe just a new GXL engine from salvage...what do ya think?

The GXL replacement would be far easier than the TII conversion, and a whole lot cheaper. The TII swp is well worth it in the end, but the road can be very bumpy if not well planned out.
