86-88 vs 89-92 fc3s
What are the advantages between having one or the other?
Obviously 89+ on are more better electronically, will tend to be in better shape, updated things, but what else is different?

Everything that has electrical problems on a S4, are found on S5 models, and even more (for example the often failing mouse belts).
And you may wish to use the search function found in the upper right hand corner of the page as this subject has been covered many times before.
But the raw run down (not including the obvious body differences) is:
S4 models: Lighter body, tighter suspension, slightly less HP, better quality parts, more part availability (as they built some 120,000 S4 models)
S5 models: 150-200# Heavier (depending on model), slightly more HP, more isolated suspension, SRS, bigger gas tank, cheaper build quality, cost cutting short cuts (PD design, engine speed power steering on non turbos instead of vehicle speed sensing as found on S4 models, no LSD on GXL or GTU, etc).

Sometimes you have to use a little brain power to come up with some good search terms such as "differences between series" There are all kinds of difference ways you can put it into the search engine, just have to play with it to find out.

The FAQ stickies dont differentiate between front bumpers............and it took more time to type that out then to answer the question. But what the hey someone will tell me. Is this a S4 or S5 bumper. the car is a 86 mind you........than went thru some s5 changes....
P.S. there are about 6 links that no longer work in your almighty FAQ...how about cleaning that thread up......

well if u cared to go through the faq and the links that the faq gave it will give this website
http://fc3spro.com/TECH/FAQ/ZVK/zvk.html
this site gives all the info on mechanical differences wtih pros and cons comparing each series and HOW to overcome some of their cons. very good site.
but it doesnt say about differences in the body or factory options they came with, u'll find that stuff in the sticky at the top of this forum. main thing i look at body is for the black strip around the car on the s4s, where the s5s have colour coordinated strips.
about 90% of info u want is 100% in the faqs or sticky. only reason i can think of u posting here is if your being lazy.

looks liek we are going back to the old bash the newbie days.... so i guess the forum was reformed for about 2 or 3 months but now.. again its a repeat offender... answer his damn question or shut the hell up.. telling someone to search once or twice was good enough.. bash bash bash.. now for my two cents ... "more better electronically?" bwahahaha

Im pretty sure the s4 is more prone to catching fire (FPD) than the s5. Thats pretty important isnt it?
Reted owns a s4 and from many of his posts he is a little bias. I think s4's and s5's average out about the same on pros and cons. The main thing I like better about the s5 is the taillights.

well....there is the sticky with all teh factory features of each year posted at teh top, I found it very nice...albeit those without teh uber net connection will cry while they wait for the loading pixels. I own both a S4 and S5. I personally love the S5's bumpers and mouldings so she wont be stripped of them. My S4 will be getting all the upgrades as she is the lightest between the pair(88 SE vs. 89 GXL). Its all a matter of preferance but either way you cant go wrong. I currently have pics of both my cars(in both there ugly busted shapes) posted in my two project threads, refer to my bio for those liks and enjoy the interestingness.
I now apologize for this post to all who love grammar and spelling.

westler91, the white turbo model rx-7 pictured earlier looks like it has a S4 bumper, the S5 front bumper has the bottom center section recessed back a few inches. they both look good to me, and they are both still rx-7's.
