Check it out dude. The sport is the lightest 7 made in that year to me I think it is very worth it. The sport has an aluminum hood lighter than the T2. What I would do is buy the sport save your money get a T2 motor and an engine management computer. Something like a Wolf 3d or a haltech.

A sport w/o power windows and sunroof, is only a second slower than the 87 T2 in the 0-60 and a half second on the 1/4 mile. So your right around a 15.6.
Sports w/o power everything only weigh about 2600 lbs (vs the 2850 of a 87 T2)

what put a t2 motor in the n/a car? would it fit with no probs?
i have a 89 gtu motor
i guess thats pretty good for an n/a
how fast could i make it without totally breaking my wallet and adding a 75 shot of NOS?

It is one of the lightest RX7's next to the GTU. It doesn't have the rear wiper, power windows, power locks. It does have a little black rubber spoiler on the back, a front, and a sunroof. The GTU doesn't have a sunroof. I would recomend keeping the N/A motor. But if you really wanted to go Turbo, you should really buy a TII instead. Alot less work, money and hassle invloved instead of doing the conversion. Just my 2 cents. Good luck

My Project 86 is a sport, and it was really fast as an N/A, especially when I added a wet shot of NOS to it. It is now a series 5 TII conversion track car, and it is really fast as hell now =) It also has the 4 pot brakes. I say go for it!
