'84 Tranny Into A '91?
'84 Tranny Into A '91?
I have a 1984 RX7 GSL-SE, and a 1991 n/a RX7. The '91 is an auto, and I want to swap in a manual tranny. Would the manual from the '84 be able to swap into the '91, since they're both 13b engines?
I'd like to know as well. I'd also like to know if the other manual conversion parts, such as brake/clutch petal, flywheel etc. from a 1st gen would work in a 2nd gen.
I tried searching, but to no avail.

I have to ask why? just get a t2 trans. it'll last longer. youll need a set of clutch cylinders, a pedal, flywheel, clutch, propeller shaft. It is important that you get a flywheel off the engine your trying to convert a maual over to , or at least a counterweight for the said engine, and a alum flywheel and clutch assembly that match the trans vintage. the slave cylinders are specific to the trans type. E.g. a t2 slave cylinder wont work properly on a NA trans (and vice versa) The plunger stroke either is too long or not long enough, depending on application. probably the same between s1-s3 an s4/s5 trans. The deal with the propeller shaft is this: The yokes are different, and the diff flanges are different, depending upon application. so you will have to have a custom shaft made. Dodge u-joints are cheap to replace when they go bad. beyond that my guess is it's probably a bolt together project. the only thing I'm not sure about, is tranny mount location and type. the few s2-s3 trans I have seen appear to have the same trans mount type, but wether it is in the same location as the s4-s5's I don't know for sure, it looks like it though.

yes it will. but like mr sunshine said you got get the stuff for a manual first. i had a 1st gen tranny,( i think it was a 84) in my 87 gxl great off the line but top end sucked , you would be in 5th gear and doing 80mph. you can just tell that it was close to its limit but like i said great of the line
also evevy thing from a manual 2nd gen will bolt up to the 1st gen tranny the only thing is that it sets a inch or 2 up so you got to cut the plastic that hold the shift boot atleast thats what i had to do til i got a 2nd gen tail shaft and bolted it to the 1st gen tranny which was a pain in the a$$.then it sat where it was suppost to
