6th port actuator vacuum lines.. where?
6th port actuator vacuum lines.. where?
So here's my funny story.. all day today I've spent trying to get my actuators for the 6th ports working. I tried the 'has the grease moved' method, and reving it to see if the actuators moved.. no go. So finally im feeling down there and low and behold, there are no freakin vacuum lines connected to the actuators!! the previous owner must've removed them for some reason. Anyhow, i've looked through my haynes manual and it tells me where the solonoids for the actuators are, and where the vacuum lines are supposed to connect to the actuators but it doesn't tell me where the hoses are that connect the solonoid to the acuators. As far as i can tell the hoses directly off the solonoid connect to some metal hoses after about 2 inches and those metal hoses go somewhere under the VDI portion of the intake, after that i'm lost. i can't see any extra hoses hanging around by the actuators either so it's nothing obvious (to me at least). If someone could direct me to where the hoses are supposed to connect so I can get my 6th ports working, or maybe the haynes manual page where i can find a diagram, it would be much appreciated.
thanks

well, on mine there is no hard or soft line connecting ANYTHING to the nipples on the bottoms of the actuators. i found the vacuum hose diagrams in the Emissions Control Systems section of the haynes manual but it doesn't show the 6pi actuators or related hoses for the 86-88 models, it only shows the information for the 89+ models, which is different as far as I know. basically what i'd like to be able to do is find out where the heck the hose from the actuators is supposed to go, then go to the store and buy some vaccum hose and reconnect those babies, and hopefully they will work. if thats at all possible.
I thought you had an S5 I can go take a pic of my car right now if you want.
But I don't have a stock setup only the hard line is in there but the rubber one is comming off my headers because I have true duals not a stock exhaust.

hrm, that sux. so it's a hard line that connects to the nipples on the bottoms of the actuators? i suppose I have to get that from the dealer huh. then i still need to figure out where to connect that line to. sorry, i'm new at this, i just got my rx7 a week ago
. (mumbles.. people all goin around removin stuff...grumble). well, it's all for the good of the country, or something like that.. any pics would indeed help me tho.

^ Here is the rubber line hooking up to the hard line.
Here is the hard line which is banjo bolted to the LIM ^
^ There aren't any nipples on the bottom. Although this is blurry you can see that there are screws down there. Don't know their purpose so please ask someone more knowledgable.
Here is a GOOD shot of the Y part of the hard line and where it goes throughout the outside part of the LIM
One last shot of the bottom of the actuators. No nipples down there.
I hope this helps.

PS-Sorry about the mess as I have the care "wired" for the intake temp testing and all the wires are all kinda loose and hanging down.

hah, ya, i got it figured out, i didn't realize the hoses didn't connect to the actuators themselves. by the way, they are frozen up good. my project for tonight is a/c and power steering removal and to get those babies unstuck while im at it.
I hope this isn't your daily driver. This could turn into a long wait for broken parts. I broke my MOP lines when I cleaned mine and I fixed it by going with pre-mix.
arent the actuators on s4s moved by backpressure from the exhaust? anyhow the rods on the actuators don't move w/o some amount of force, more than the pressure needed to open them im guessing. they do move, just not willingly. im currently fighting with p/s, a/c removal, so why not read my thread on that while you are at it

my actuators were starting to stick, opening too late. They're supposed to open at about 2psi of backpressure on S4 RX-7s. S5's have an electronic system to open them up that's connected via the airpump. I never noticed those screws before....hmmmmm I wonder what they do?
I put some lube on them and physically moved the actuators with my fingers to get the grease in there. They should open at around 3500 rpm.
1987RX7guy, how do you like your duals? What kind of setup are you using? I'm thinking about getting some made to bolt up to the stock muffler locations.
