6 Ports and smog
ok, got quite a few questions, my car failed CA emmsions today, when it passed like 2 months ago except for the egr which i fixed, but now its poluting BAD, only thing ive doen is removed the 6 ports, and a lil manifold porting to the secondarys, i had a smoking problem i soovled since then which was due to parking on a STEEP hill( i think, it stopped when i parked it level)
1: can smog be passed without 6 port sleaves and actuators? has anyone tried and passed?
2: my car is running really really good, but it seems to be gargling in fuel rich, i mean the idles perfectly smooth, and no missfires, also it starts up instantly now when it used to take a second or 2 of cranking, but it hink its way to rrich, i can smell fuel and see fumes comming out of a small leak i have before the cats, when i was settign the idle and tunning the rich lean screw, i set it at a poitn where it ran smooth with no misses,.. i now think this might be to rich.
3. i made a ecu code checker and pluged it in but get no lights at all, not even the startup "im ok and working" lights could my ecu be dead???
4. any tricks besides leaning out the idle some? i dont understand why it passed then and not now when its running better,.. only thing i can think of is idle or the removed 6-ports
5 im pullign the manifold again tomarrow and prolly replacing the 6-ports too, just to be safe, i just want soem opinions
6: car is an 86 non turbo, i made the ecu checker with 2 12v light bulbs, with 2 wires from each crimped to one spade, and a spade on the remaing 2 wirse, place in the position show on a website about how to pull the codes, is my car differnt because its an 86? i know i have a rich lean screw and other modles do not,.. is the ecu checking procedure differnt too?

I think you screwed the pooch with the light assy you made. It should be made with LED'S. Your probably pulling too much amperage with the 12v lights and have probably whacked something in the ECU.
I don't see the lack of the sleeves being your problem and doubt that the richness at idle is your full problem. I figure Ca has strickter emissions that Tx, and here they put the car on rollers and check the emissions at 15mph and then 25mph. So the idle mixture would not effect the 15 and 25mph tests.
Pull the exaust hose off your acv with the engine running, feel the air being expelled (little), then reach over there and pull your BLUE(relief) solenoid plug off and tell us if the air being expelled out of the acv has risen dramatically.

ok here's an update, Thx for the info on the LED's, ill go to radio shack tomarrow and get some, tried to go tonight but they were closed. I hope i didnt blow anything, the lights never lit, and they were small, i think 30 mAmps, i did find that my rich lean screw was WAY rich, which is the ajust ment that worked well before, but i had a few vacumne leaks then that i fixed so i was able to lean it out alot, not getting the fuel smell anymore,.. so that might have been a big part of it, althoug its missing alot now,.. so i dunno if shell pass,. any tips on ajusting the rich lean screw?
