Question 6-ports operation.... Why arent they opening?

First off.... the actuators are fine..... they freely move and with my previous engine.... i could rev my engine and watch them open at high rpm's. Now with my replacement engine..... nothing. I don't know if they're opening up while driving (i haven't checked) but why aren't they opening like they used to? I noticed a while back that the hose from my Bonez split air pipe to the actuators was burnt off..... so i replaced the hose..... is it possible that it could it be too long? When i rev the engine and take off the hose.... i don't feel alot of air being forced out.... more like air being sucked in?

Thanks,

Matt

Wink I got my answer

Although the actuators are fine.... the lever attached to the engine is not...... the left lever i can move, albeit not easily and it is now stuck open..... which im leaving that way so i can atleast have the port open for now. The right lever i can't budge at all....... time to take off the plenum and free it up....... car runs alot better already with the one port open.

Try putting a layer of grease on the actuators and going for a drive. If the grease smears, the actuators are opening.

Technically, they are only supposed to open under load, but I know on some cars you can see them open when you rev the engine.

If they are not opening check these things:

Upstream:

Could be chunks of melted rubber in the Split air line, or theport actuators.

Take a long hose and hook it to the actuators, if you blow into it REAL hard, you'll see the actuators move if the upstream portion is working properly.

For downdtream, try a guage hooked to the split air pipe. you should be getting 2.5-3.5 psi (I think)

If you end up getting a vacum, it could be the pickup in the cat somehow got turned.

Contrary to popular belief, it is mostly exhaust flow that opens the actuators. The pickup tube goes into the cat or presilencer, and bends so the opening is facing the exhaust stream. If it just went straight in, the exhaust going past the opening (at a 90 degree angle) would create a vacum --not what you want to open your actuators.

There Is that TUBE connected to your exhaust that activates the actuators. And if It isnt Hooked up, your 5 and 6 ports Wont Open! (your Acctuators) so check it. If you have new exhaust the pipe may not be hooked up anymore. ( if its turbo exhaust it wont have the adaptor for the acctuators because turbo's are only 4 Prots!)When i put my exhaust on i had to do a few alterations to hook it up because it was from a turbo.

On mine, the sleeves were free, but the forked rods that turn them were stuck. They were a PITA to get loose, but once you get them out & cleaned up, they work fine..
