6-Port Sleeves
I'm in the process of installing a Mazda remanufactured engine in my 90 GXL. The Mazda FSM mentions nothing about lubricating the 6-port sleeves before reinstalling them into their respective port holes. So, apparently they are to be reinstalled without lubrication. I'm thinking about possibly putting a thin coating of anti-seize compound of graphite on them before reinstalling.
Has anyone ever put antisieze or graphite on the sleeves? Any thoughts on this?
Also, my original intake gaskets were apparently installed without any gasket sealing compound when assembled at the factory. Any recommendations about whether to install the repalcement intake gaskets with or without gasket sealer? If using a gasket sealer, than any preferred type/brand? Any thought on using Hylomar (sp) gasket sealer?
TIA,

Why did you buy a referb from Mazda is my question! What did you pay by the way? You can get nicely built stock rebuilds w/ 2 year warranty for $1,900.
Anyway, this just came to mind....
Pineapple racing makes sleeves that have a little insert in them to allow it to flow more. Pretty neat piece.

I assume you're referring to Atkins Rotary when you mention about the 2 year warranty and $1900 price tag. I talked to Atkins too. Atkins said that they usually only install one new rotor housing unless buyer pays an extra $500 to have them both replaced. Atkins is in Washington state and I live on the east cost -- shipping costs are not included. In the long run, Mazda was cheaper for a equal (or better) quality product.
I had Rob at Pineapple Racing install the inserts into my sleeves. Pineapple Racing reuses the original sleeves -- they don't make new sleeves. BTW, I just got the sleeves back last Wednesday, and the inserts look very impressive.

No, I was actually talking about Pineapple and the motor price. I wouldn't recomend Atkins to ppl. Just Pineapple.
Yeah, those sleeve inserts are pretty cool. Seen a set or two laying around.
