5th gear from FD into FC turbo tranny
any info about putting 5th gear from FD into FC tranny ? (higher top speed, better economy at highway)
My 3rd gear grinds and i think i should rebuild tranny over the winter and while at it, put 5th gear from FD into it.
I need to know which parts i need to order to fix 3rd gear problem, what new gaskets i should order and finally where to order 5th gear from FD for it....
thanks for any input, url's and part numbers would be great ;o))
thanks

also if its a turbo tranny, you need the factory puller set to get it apart, its not easy like the n/a's

The FD gear will fit but your syncros will have the same problem they have. With a drastic jump in rpm from 4th-5th you'll increase the wear on that syncro. Now, if you have a light flywheel or are really good at waiting for RPM matches, it shouldn't matter.

what i was tryin to say earlier.. is that even if u wanted swap the FD 5th gear synchro or an FD tranny.. sooner or later youre gonna run into the same problem.. because I think the FD has an even worse problem than FC have with that 5th gear synchro that is usually caused by harsh or 2 quick or not pressin the clutch all the way in when shiftin from 2-3..... hope that helps.. and if u do it.. the 5th gear in the FD is slighty shorter i think.. so cruisin rpm's would be changed
rebuilding transmissions is generally a PITA and NOT recommended for a do-it-yourselfer. It's harder than rebuilding an engine, or just as hard, at least. also, individual parts are often worth more than an entire used transmission.
It's really not worth the hassle just to get 1-2mpg, if that.

PLEASE stop telling me what is worth and what not, i want FD 5th gear for reason of different ratios, better economy, higher topspeed.....not to fix worn synchro, my 5th is going in without any problems....
answers i expect are something like this :
u need :
5th gear and 5th counter gear
R523-17-610 $160.12
R524-17-308 $92.84
prices from mazdaformance.com

faster and cheaper than getting it at Mazda dealer in Czech Republic is flying for it to USA....seriously....
Mazda CZ does not know what RX-7 is, how to fix it...been there, talked to them and they really don`t know what are rotaries about.
I have spare TII tranny, mine starts to have worn out 3rd gear synchro so i will have to rebuild it....it is cheaper, faster and easier to rebuild it than get another one here in CZ....and since i have spare one, i don`t need to rush with it, i`ll take my time and do it right, i just need to know what to buy, where and for how much....for both, fixing 3rd gear synchro and upgrading to 5th gear from FD.....

You seem to already know what you need. Why ask our input? And I know you don't have a 5th gear syncro problem, but is could become a problem later with this swap.
Also, I seriously doubt that many FC guys have done this swap. However, I would like to have the FD 5th gear. But if my trans ever goes I'm just gonna swap a G-force or something similar. I had an AWD talon and I know what a bitch it is to have shitty transmissions. Just go straight to the good stuff.

Simple answers.
If you have a TII... don't bother. There difference in gearing is something like (-.003)
If you have an N/A... try and get a 5th gear from an 86'. They have a .637 vs. every other years' .711 and it would be a much easier swap (out with the old, in with the new) because both are Type-2.

from few ppl i have information that difference is noticable TII 5th vs FD 5th, i want to have it confirmed.....i mean 260 vs 300 km/h top speed or something like that.....
:Apoligizing:
I, in fact, am WRONG. The 5th gear in a 5-speed is .697 vs. the TII's .711! That's quite a difference.
I'm sorry that I couldn't help you out with problems or ways to go about the switch, but I didn't want to spread misinformation. Sorry about that.
