5th gear acting sketchy

So sometimes when I'm driving I'm not able to get into 5th gear. It'll go all the way to the right, but when I'm pushing up it feels like it's hitting something. This only happens once in a while. Sometimes it will work and other times it won't. All the other gears go in fine.

I've already tried cleaning out the shifter area to see if any junk was in there jamming it. Also took out the detent ball, cleaned it and regreased the area with white lithium grease. Any ideas? Thanks!

Well i've always had problems with 5th on rx7's transmissions. I guess its there weak 5th gear or syncro? Or its just me. I just don't mind it anymore.

All my syncros are shot. Learn to double-clutch and you'll have no problems no matter how bad a box you're driving. It will make you a better driver too.

Plastic trash in the shifter. Remove the shifter and dig it out and replace the broken plastic parts. See MAZDATRIX's FAQ for shifter parts.
