5th gear

The links to the brochures are invalid...

Which NA FCs came with which 5th gear ratio?
We've got the following: 0.711, 0.758, and 0.697

I want 0.697...

ALL S4 N/A coupes? I've found no mention of 1986, but found a reference to 1987-1991 GXLs... Why would GXLs have a special ratio? I'd think the Vert would due to the weight.

Rummages through the bookshelf...

OK, I have the 88 brochure in my hand, and it lists 0.697 for the NA M5 transmission for the coupes, but 0.711 for the convertibles.

Now I have my ratty old 1997 Mazda Comp catalog, and it lists 0.697 for 1987-1991 "RX7 (Non-Turbo & Without Viscous Limited Slip)". It lists 0.711 for 1986 "RX7", and 0.756 for 1989 "RX7 GTUS".

Wonder why they used .711 for 1986 only... Maybe a holdover from the 1st gen GSL-SE...
