5th and 6th ports problems

i have a 87 n/a with racing beat header, presilencer, and no air pump. the levers for the 5th and 6th ports were stuck so i cleaned them up real good along with the actuators so both of them move freely. i blew air into the tube feeding to test them out and they don't budge. what could be the problem?

and I think that they are vacuum activated so blowing into the feed tube wont help need something to create negative pressure

the way to tell if your aux ports are working is take it out and drive it. if it you notice better top end power then your aux ports are working. now the question i should have asked first are the stuck open or closed

No, they are pressure activated.

If they were always stuck, how would you know the difference??? You would have nothing to compare them to

You might have some kind of air leak around the gasket areas or the split air tube. You can check this by pushing one of the actuator shafts down, then kinking the tube. If the shafts stay down by themselves, then the actuators are working correctly. If the shaft releases, you have an air leak somewhere that you will have to find becuase it could be anywhere on the 'system'.

If the actuators work with the above test, do the grease test to check if they work under a load. I see you do not have an airpump so it probable wont work. To address this, you will most likely have to do some sort of electric air pump activation.

In S5 cars, they already are electronically activated and will work correctly as long as you keep your airpump. But as far as the grease test go, I believe the S5 actuators are push type instead of pull. If they are push types, I could see you using tape instead of grease. Put a strip of tape, one end of the actuator body, the other end somewhere decent on the shaft. If the actuators work, one of the ends of the tape should pull/rip off.

thanks for clearing that up, I didn't know the 5th and 6th port actuators were electric

i looked at my actuators and there is hardly nothin left of the gasket. i'm gonna try some rtv sealant and then try them. i don't think not having the air pump will affect anything because the s4 5th and 6th ports work off of exhaust pressure.

The S5's can get stuck, IIRC you could just disconnect the pressure sensor vacuum line and they'd operate in neutral, let me see if I can dig up how to test the S5 properly.
