Yeah, i noticed this too with my car, and i think this is from the VDI actuator not working either. Did you clean that one up? The only problem with getting at this actuator, and correct me if i'm wrong, is that you have to take the upper intake extention off.

yeah you have to take off the upper intake. i think the VDI could be whats choking me at 6.5k-8k rpms.
i was not aware that the 6pi was a side intake port that opened up. this FSM is a great great tool.
Definitely take the manifolds off and clean them up right!! Spraying junk around the outside where the rod goes through the manifold is not going to do much for them.
Mine were a little gummed up...they moved, but it took more effort than those actuators could produce.
I took everything apart and I could not believe how much crap was caked in the sleeves and the port valves. I took the valves out and cleaned everything up with carb cleaner and reassembled. It was not that hard of a job really. Maybe took me 3 hours.....and I had never had the entire intake off before, so I was breaking new ground.
When I put everything back together they flopped open and closed with no effort before reattaching the actuators.
I could finally feel them open around 4000. Well worth the 3 hours of work and the cost of some new gaskets to know that they were working correctly.
