5th and 6th port actuators being wired open?
i am getting an exhaust for my car and i am removing the cats from the setup. how do you wire open the 5th and 6th port actuators on an 89 GXL?
not this again...

Or you could actually fix them

Jeez, you guys...
The S5 6PI system is not operated by exhaust backpressure so there is no need to wire anything open just because you're changing the exhaust. Leave them alone so they can work properly and do what you're supposed to do.

Okay, so I have the same setup pretty much. It's an S5 gtu, no cats. I have a bonez midpipe, so I don't have a bung for the Airpump connection. So what should I do with the Airpump pipe that runs to the non exsistant cat? As of right now, I just have it zip tied to the chasis so it doesn't bounce around.
wiring them open will absoloutly kill whatever low-end response you have!
mazda put them there for a reason-so that the car could have high rpm performance, but keep the low end drivability.
fixing them will do wonders for your car.
mine work perfectly, and its very fun to have them, bc you can tell when they open-you get a nice pull through your powerband. i like to call it "miniboost"

Yeah, i'm pretty sure that my 5th/6th ports still work, that's why I don't want to mess with them. Throught this thread I've realized that I don't have to do anything as far as wiring them open. I'm just worried about the pipe that leads into the stock cat from the air pump. It's just chillin under the car, not connected to anything.

Hi, I have a 90 with racing beat headers and pre-silencer.On the pre-silencer (which replaces your cat) has the attachment for the back pressure tube and fits right up nicely without any problems. Check out racing beat, i noticed a difference and they sound really good
put it to you this way... I had mine wired open for a week. I thought, 'hey, this isn't so bad, and I can actually accelerate past 4k". I un-wired them to see if I could really feel a difference, HOLY CRAP. I actually have low end torque. Its a beautiful thing, and my ports are staying closed until I can properly actuate them. I don't spend much time past 4k anyways, so it really doesn't matter.
