5-speed trans dying

@ 180k ( I know it's time!) on my 87 GXL, and the front seal on the trans is letting a pretty good bit of lube by to the ground.

My question would be, for those who have been there, is it typically just a seal wear prob, or is it brought on by a worn shaft or bearing? I suppose I would be about as well rebuilding this one as it works decent otherwise, as any other used one would put me in the same boat.

Anybody wish to comment?

Thanks,

Rootsgroup

Are you certain that it's the trans' front seal and not the engine's rear seal? Does the lube on the ground smell like 90 weight?

I'd say leaking seals are common in anything with close to 200k.
