Question 5 Speed conversion

Hi,

Hope this is an easy question, is the rear diff the same in a base car whether standard or auto?

I know the final drive ratio is different, but curious if i can get away with using the auto's for now,

Thanks!

Mike

I was under the impression the autos had a 3.90 rear and the manual trans cars had 4.10 or 4.30 for the GTUs.

The gear ratio is different but other than that they are pretty much the same. Auto's had a 3.90 final drive and 5 speeds and turbos had 4.10. The Exception is the GTUs which had a 4.30 final drive ratio. 5 speed drivelines will bolt up to an auto rear diff also. Not to sure about the S4 rear ends but all S5 auto rear diffs are open. But yeah, they can be used for a 5 speed car.
