4-piston swap...$100
4-piston swap...$100
I looked at used calipers earlier today...they go between $50 and $100 for a set here...varies from seller to seller and appearance and what not. I called up Advance Autoparts earlier today. They have the 4-piston calipers for $35.99 a piece. Then pads run $25.
But basically yeah...$50 for used calipers, or $72 for new ones (or they're refurbished...I can remember which). Just curious if there's something there I'm missing as to why people don't just get the 4-pots form Advance...

You are correct. For around $200 you can buy refurbished front and rear 4 pot calipers. I wouldn't take a chance on 20+ year old calipers. The rebuild kits from the parts store are cheap too but if the caliper piston is scoured from contaminants new seals won't stop a leak.
I don't mind paying $400 to replace brake system parts like calipers, discs, pads, and fluid.

People aren't aware they are so cheap. As I recall, when I bought my 4 piston calipers, they were $75 each new/rebuilt (not including the core charge). Though I would not recommend buying the cheap pads. The probably dust a lot and don't grip as well as a good set of Hawk or even OEM pads.
That is what I did when my front calipers needed a rebuild. I just got rebuilt ones from rockauto for $48 each not including core. That was going with FD calipers, I like the looks of them better

Doing the whole thing from all-new parts might be restrictive because of all the nit-picky parts like bearings, bolts, and studs.
The FD brakes are the same size so no performance upgrade over the FC 4-pots. It's cosmetic.
