5-lug swap w/o 4-piston calipers?
I've searched. found lots of threads saying to search. but no links to threads that actually have information.
I have an 88 SE. I'm looking to do a 5-lug swap on my car, W/O the 4-piston calipers... i.e. retain my stock calipers. the car's not going to be road raced, just some street driving and drag racing.... I don't need a ton of brakes or the clearance issues involved.
I already have 5-lug hubs from a T2 that I'll be using, I'm just looking for the right rotors...
suggestions?

Most aftermarket and all the stock wheels should fit the 4 pot brakes. You'd need some new caliper brackets anyway, since the 5 lug brakes are larger and the calipers need to be mounted further out. The 5 lug single piston brakes are decent, but the 4 pots are better.

..Exactly what /\ said..you will have a Slight problem with the Brackets..the Rotor is going to Hit on the bracket. It won't clear it..Unless you use the Five Lug Single piston Brake Bracket..The 4 lug bracket won't do...That is not Unless you want to go all Magyver on it,and use the Four lug rotors and Redrill them to five lugf(not advisable,at all..and a Big Freakin waste of time.)

need the S5 brackets huh? OK.
from what I found, the 4-lug front rotor is 9.8" & the S5 base model is 10.9"
won't increasing the diameter of the brake, and moving the caliper out, make the front/rear bias change? do I need the proportioning valve too?
why the change? 1) more wheel choices 2) drag wheels don't always have clearance for four piston calipers.... you have to space them out (sometimes too far) and possibly grind the calipers 3) capability to swap wheels w/ my brother when we go to the track, if necessary.

I have the swap you're referring to. I'm going to jump on the bandwagon and say it's worth doing the brake swap too - you can never have enough brakes. That's why I have 4-piston calipers in a box, waiting to go in when I get the other parts.
Now on to your question. All you really need are the hubs and some 86-91 5-bolt rotors. As alluded to, some S5's came with 5 bolt wheels and single piston front calipers. I didn't have an S5 caliper mount bracket, but my rotor clears (just barely). You can probably get the proper bracket for cheap, but in my case it works fine.

You will also find that If you change the Front Brakes out to the 4 piston Calipers, that you will need the Small steel Brake line that runs between the Brake itself and the Flex line(see Parts Manual). Now,I have done the swap Without it,But It's Not Exactly Recommended..(this was done by putting the Caliper onto the Flexline,And turning the Whole Caliper to tighten up the Line)..another Note: you do Not have to change the Master and Booster out Either..you can run the 4 Lug Master/Booster on the New 5 lug set-up..if you want to change to the 5 lug master/booster at a later date, you can,If you wish.

I've been using single piston brake lines with my 4 piston calipers, and it fits just fine and I've never had any issues with it. Fits like it was meant to be.
