5 hour drive....?

Considering buying a fc 5 hours away. Has a new reman just 500 miles in. It's a TII too. You guys think it can hang for 5 hours coming back? And if I decide to tow it could I tow it on it's front wheels with it's rears on the floor?

You can drive it back. Just do not get on it and try your best to keep it out of boost until it has a few more miles on it.

The thing is that it isn't registered because it isn't smogged. So I can't legally drive it back.

i pulled mine on its rear wheels for 3 hours when i picked it up. if it didn't have a blown motor i would have driven it back.

It should be good to drive. Just let her warm up and down afterwards. I drove my AE 800 miles after I picked her up, and I was worried about her motor as you are about this car. Should be fine.

If you tow her with the rear wheels on the ground, then your odometer will count those miles. Seeing as how you've got a reman in there now then the odo isn't correct for the number of miles on the motor anyways. You could probably disconnect the speedometer cable from the tranny while she is in tow to prevent the miles from being counted. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Nope youre right, just unscrew the speedo cable at the transmission and tuck it up under the frame so it doesnt drag and it wont count the miles.

Kewl, thanks Pip. I have heard of people disconnecting drive shafts, but I figured the speedo cable would be much easier.

You should be actually ok to drive the car home. When you buy a car it's not obviously going to be registered and such. All you'll need is proof of sale papers, which you should get anyway when you buy the car. So if you do get pulled over you show the cop those papers and they'll let you go.. After sale you have like 14 days to register a car before you get a penalty.

I drove my car to and back from VA. I didn't have any problems and the drive was 6 1/2 hours long each way. You should be fine as long as the car is in good condition. You can get temporary license plates from your state as long as you have the title. Or you can just steal one of your friends' license plate. That's what I did when I bought and drove my car back to OH from MI

drove my rx7 200 miles home when i first bought it.. then when it broke i drove it 500 miles home from tennesee.. had to tow it there though =/

**** son, I just had a friend (EAGE8) drive my 7 and I drove my honda right behind him tailgating him the whole time so the bacon wouldn't stop us. I say just drive it back

I drove my rx7 from tenn. to florida on a rebuild. Was finished breaking in for the most part by the time I got there... Then I drove it all the way back to MD.

I drove my 7 all the way from Florida to Guatamala and back on a bad rear rotor. About 10,000 miles in 2 weeks. Not a whole lot of passing power but if you dont go more than 10 mph over the limit you should be fine.

About the tag, when you have the title work done they'll give you a temp tag, If you get the title work done in that state. If not you can take a chance.

Personaly I don't like the idea of possibly being charged with a federal crime, you know the whole crossing the state line with the intention of commiting a crime and all.
Especially if you're not making a **** load of money doing it. But sometimes you gotta do what ya gotta do.

It shows how to tow the FC in the FSM i think, either that or the owners manual.. I remember seeing it
Note* ive drove my Vert 300 miles between walla walla and seattle with no problems, but my engine is brand new rebuild and broken in well and is also currently an NA.
