5 beeps - fixed steering wheel, still there. :\

Hello. I got this car from a person that had a standalone in the car. I took the stadealone out and put the stock ECU back in. Anyways the car had an aftermarket steering wheel that broke the little plastic steering sensor ring. I took the bad steering wheel off and got a stock one with a new steering wheel ring.

I make the bottom black steering wheel sensor (that is behind the front one) point to 9 oclock. Then I took the ring and made that point to 9 oclock. I than installed the steering wheel with no issues. I made sure I hade power steering fluid and then started the car. After about 4 mins of driving the 5 beeps starts again. I have aligned all the sensors up multiple times, and it still isn't fixing the problem.

Any ideas? My power steering pump is plugged in and working fine... The beeps are just getting very annoying.

Thanks

if the sensor ring is pushed in too far it will also cause the error.

Is this still an aftermarket wheel?

nope, it is the stock steering wheel. I guess I will take off the wheel and pull the sensor ring out a little, see if that helps.

Thanks icemark. Is there a possibility that my power steering computer could be bad?

hmmm well sensor wasn't crushed or not in far enough, so I ended up unplugging the PS computer for my long tip tonight. When I get home I will replace the computer, there isn't anythng else I could think of. Maybe I will replace the whole sensor assembly incase it was damaged when the previous person crushed the sensor. :/

Replace the computer. Happened to me once. It would drive fine for a couple miles then the PS would shut off and start beeping. Replaced the computer with one of my spares and it has been beep free for a few months now.
