they should fit but will stick out the side a little, probably rub if lowered.

No, +47 will be more toward the inside of the wheel well. The lower the offset the more the rim will stick out. +47 mm may rub the front spring with 205's. I know that 17x8 with a +40 mm offset and 215/45/17 is VERY close to the spring in the front. The rear should be ok.

13BAce is right. The more positive offset, the closer the tire's center moves towards the inside of the car.

I think you might have a spring rubbing problem with 47 offset - even with coilovers. I run 18X8 40mm offset and need to use 3mm spacers to keep the front from rubbing the spring. (I have Ground Control coilovers)

I dont know what the stock T2 wheels offset is (hopefully someone will help here) but my 205/55's are very close to the spring on the front.

T2 stock offset is +38mm and with 225/50/16 tires in the front, it rubs against the shocks...been there, done that. P215 is the way to go!

the biggest problem with offset is if a 16x7 40mm offset just fits, a 16x8 40mm offset won't , cause it will be 1/2" closer to the spring.

they should just use backspacing for wheel measurments. it would be so much eaiser.

I have 18's, but with 17's it would be similar. I run 18x8 with a +30 mm offset in the front with 225/40/18. In the rear I run 17x9 with a +30 mm offset with 275/35/18. The fronts are ok with my Suspension Techniques springs and Tokico Illuminas. The rears rubbed, but 255's would probably be ok. I had to roll--more like bang with a hammer--my rear fenders to get rid of MOST of the rubbing.

So, after reading all of this. I can safely assume that a 17x7.5" rim with a 45mm offset will fit in both front and rear, and not rub. Am I correct?

FC3AZ,
i dont think your rims will clear. thats a wider rim and a bigger offset than the stock rims, youd only have 2mm more clearance than the situation the first guy of the post is in and they said his would rub....might want to wait for an rx guru to chime in though.

with my own question though...will 16x7s fit with a +40mm wearing 224/55/16 rubber? i know it would be close has anyone tried this? im thinking either that or 17x7s with a +40mm and 225 rubber.

thanks

That's not really true. The tread will be in exactly the same location on either width. The sidewall may bulge out SLIGHTLY further due to the lip of the tire being further out, but not by as much as the rim width differs. The only way to truly find out is try it and see... or measure the distance from the plane of the face of the hub to the spring perch... and measure the distance from the plane of the tire sidewall's inner side to the face of the inner side of the wheel center. That even isn't 100% accurate, since it is the spacing at a particular diameter that is important.

No. It probably will NOT fit right, depending on tire size. A +45 offset sits 5 mm further IN than a +40 (the stock offset.) A 17x7.5 with even a 215 width tire will probably rub if the wheel is a +45 offset. The back MIGHT be ok... the front will almost certainly rub.

MAYBE. I have 225/60/15's on the stock 15x6.5 convertible rims... I have about 1/8" of clearance. The carcass width of the tire (widest point on the sidewalls) will make a difference. If you have a tire that has pretty "straight" sidewalls, you will probably be ok. If not, it will rub. Some tires have straighter sidewalls- I have Yokohama AVS dB on my car- many other brands would NOT have worked.
