4000 rpm on cold startup

Hello

1991 T2 , eurospec , all stock, and next to perfect except for the high cold startup rpm, and it last for 5-7 minutes before reducing the rpms, makes for active use of brakes to keep car slow enough.

As info : When its warm it has an idle of between 900 rpm and 1500 rpm.

things that maybe can cause the extremely high cold startup rpm ?

- termowax out out its working "area"
- tps adjustments
- starting in first gear with clutch engadge is not altering the 4k rpm ( bypass Aws method )
-some vacume line pipe that makes for a leak when its cold, but that expands when hot and " seals" the leak

Thanks for any input, i have wsm, and read most of similiar threads.

Are you suggesting the idle bounces between 900 and 1500? If so then adjust the Green/Red TPS wire to 1 volt w/key to on and engine "completely" warmed up. Also the close to 4000 rpm idle on start up should last for 17 seconds then it should drop to around 1500 or so and "very, very" slowly drop as the engine warms up and the Fast Idle cam rolls completely off the pin.

Tanks for input !

As for the 900 / 1500 rpm idle @ fully warm, its not bouncing, it can be hold at 900 if using handbrake In gear to slow it down from 1500, and then stays 900, but with slitest touch of throttle, its right back at steady 1500 .

sounds like your thermowax is a little too loose. if you remove the intercooler the thermowax adjustment screw sits in a little spot on the idle dashpot at the rear top of the throttle body, it is a phillips screw facing straight up with a spring under it.

tighten the screw down a few turns at a time and see how the car reacts.
