Talking 4 tries and $120 later i have finally passed emissions

.

First off i want to thank you guys for the help becuase if it wasent for you guys i would have never gotten this done. The other good news is that in mass you only have to do emissions every other year so i dont have to worry about this for 2 years

I will list what i did in the hope that it helps anyone else that is in the same situation i was in for so long. Just to give you guys an idea i bought my car in november of 2002, and i have been batteling with trying to get my car passed ever since i bought it.

From what i have come to learn, there is no ONE way to pass or any list you can use because every car is diffrent and the way they are tuned varies by a large margin. First check my sig to see what i have then if its similiar you can more than likely do what i did and pass.

1. I ran 1/8 tank of gas and put 2 bottles of Isoproyl alchohol into my tank. During this my car ran really crappy and barely was able to maintain idle but im sure this helped the emissions.
2. Installed ACV, airpump, and a stock TII exaust with a bonez swapped in for my exuast. My catback stayed the same its the Apexi N1.
3. MOST IMPORTANT AND WHAT MADE ME PASS! was my S-AFC. I tuned everything up untill 4k on both hi and lo setting to -15%. This is the reason why it took me 4 tries to get done becuase i started very gradually to see what would happen and just kept tweaking it more and more untill i passed.

And thats it. I have to say i cant tell you guys how happy i am cuz now i can drive my car with no worries and really enjoy it all i want.
Thanks again.
Now im going to go tear all that **** off!!!

Isopropyl??? I thought you wer supposed to use denatured alcohol. Isopropyl as you buy it off the shelf is mostly water. Am I wrong about using denatured? Anyways...congrats on passing!

I think the airpump has a lot more to do with you passing than the SAFC. Congrats on passing!

Denatured Alcohol is Ethanol (C2H5-OH), which can be used as a fuel.. Mostly, it's mixed with gasoline and is called "gasohol" and can reduce CO emissions in cars.

Methanol or Wood Alcohol (CH3-OH) is actually the better type of alcohol to run.. EPA studies showed that a car running 85% methanol and 15% gasoline will produce 50% less smog emissions than running just gas.

Now, I know this cause I used to be an Air Quality Specialist for PA DEP, as for the POWER these two produce, its less than that of the same amount of gasoline.. and as far as detonating.. no clue whatsoever...

Isopropyl alcohol can be used as a "Dry Gas" it causes water in the gas tank to cimbine insolution with itself and the gasoline and it will be burned away..

but thats PURE isopropyl alcohol.. if you put drug store Iso-Propyl in there, this effect is going to be compromised by the water content of the alcohol...

I thought you would want to use methanol or ethanol
BUT.. He passed... so Woo Hooo

Keep driving and getting the alcohol out... did you dilute it with high octane?

I've always run the cycle through a engine (no matter piston or rotary). 89 one week, 93 the next, then once in a great while (every month) I'll throw in a tank of 100. If it is turbo'd my rule has always been not to put anything less then mid range (89 or 93).

Most car manufacter's test their cars on 89 anyways.
