3rd gen. VS TII???I'M TORN!!!!
Well, I'm posting this in both the FC and FD sections to try and get both sides. I know a guy with a really sweet TII for sale.
88, New black paint, the body is perfect,, 108k on body, new streetported motor, new modified stock turbo, FMIC, SDS programable EFI, 3' racingbeat exhaust, intake. $6k
I think with these mods it would be close to a stock FD.
I just got a new job making more money and was thinking about a 3rd gen. I know enough about FD's to say that buying one is the cheap part. But I want one so bad, I think they are beautiful cars and have wanted one for awhile(way before that stupid movie). I know they arn't very practical, especially in West Virginia. I don't think I would drive a TII or FD in the winter so I guess that doesn't matter. I'm not rich.
Your advice please.

Thats a tough one....both are damn good cars....i guess just break out the pen and paper and check off the pros and cons....u said the T2 has a newly done street port and some other mods....that could be money saved...for the 3rd gen u will have to eventually do mods to it which might cost more depending on how extreme u want to go.....not sure man I had the same dilema i went with the one that i came across first....which was the 88 T2....i figured if I wait i might not find a deal like the one i had agian.....plus I needed a car.....I'm not sure if this was of any help to u but good luck....and no matter which route u go its still rotary that can kick *** and take names when ready......

Back in 98' I had a GXL and my friend hated anything made in Japan until the day I gave him a ride in my car. After that he went and bought a rare 93' R1 version that car was sweet but found out later all the piping to the turbos were cracked and or missing we hooked them back up and pop goes the motor after he got it fixed it was fast as hell. It smoked my GXL I like both but if I had the moey for either one I would get the 3rd gen. But it is true much cheaper to upgrade a 2nd gen then a 3rd. So if you want to go fast cheaper then get the TII.

Personally, I would never buy a modded TII unless I knew the owner very well. There's just so many ways to screw up the car. The same, of course, goes for an FD.
I vote for the TII. But that's because I think 2nd gens look much better than the FD, and can be made just as fast for less money.

XLR8,
Don't forget about converting the convertible 2nd gen into a turbo II. I'd go find a dirt cheap convertible & smashed Turbo II
yeah the 3rd gens are more exotic looking, but the 2nd gens have a larger userbase, more models to choose from, lots of mods, bodykits, accessories, etc..

Unless you have a LOT of cash to burn, go with the FC.
If after a year you feel you can afford to dump a lot more $$$ into a car that you'll never get back, start shopping for an FD.

Just look at the price difference, that should be reason enough. Don't get me wrong, a 3rd gen is my dream car, but the you get SO much more for your money with a 2nd gen. I would agree with the above comments, I too would be hesitant about buying a modded car. Its been driven hard for sure.

Ya, I've decided to stick with the FC. I havn't looked at the car in person yet. I plan on doing a compression test when I do, to prove the motor is new. The guy said it has been his project for about 6 years and was totally stock when he started. I can tell he isn't a kid, mid 30's. I too worry about it being raped but if I'm driving to Chicago from WV so you bet I'll be putting it under a microscope. Thanks guys

Once again, it's all in the driver, but given that drivers are of equal skills, you could take on a *stock* FD no problem.

Yeah, actually I have driven a mildly modded FD which had:
RS Akimoto Intake
RS Akimoto FMIC
Custom 3" Downpipe
Exhaust...(dunno the brand)
HKS bov
G-Force ECU
It's pretty damn fast, but notice how I said, a stock FD. Not a modded one. Come on now, give the 2nd gens some credit too. Those mentioned are some heavy modifications.

I always say:You buy a FD to pimp, a FC to race. I have driven a FD w/ streetport, M2 intercooler, M2 airfilter, and non-sequential turbos, Apex'i Programmer, w/ approx. 325 hp, and I really did not like it. The interior was WAY too tiny, and I didn't like the way the car felt. Fc all the way baby!!!
