Will the FD transmission fit into an FC????

It won't fit without alot of work. Take niner's advice and use a TII transmission. The 89-91 models are a little better than 87-88.

I think the only difference is the 5th gear, and theyre just as strong. And don't exactly fit w/o modifying them. So yeah, TII is the way to go

Will the housing of the series V trans fit onto the series IV motor???

I understand that the gear syncros are made out of brass....
Is there anyone make tougher syncros for either trans???

Yes, that will work. I had a series V transmission on a series IV< and it worked fine. Right now I have an 87-88 TII transmission mated to the 89-91 TII motor in my convertible.

FD's use a pull-type clutch, which is a real PITA. It tends to fail a lot more than the push type clutches(FC's) once the hp starts going up. And like everyone else said, the trannies are the same strength.
