3rd gear grinds

im just trying to diagnose a problem with my t2
when i shift high or down shift low into 3rd she grinds i have to let the rms drop below 3k and she wont grind . but when i launch and tap every gear perfect there is no grinding . i have a brand new clutch(like 120 miles on it since install) because the old friction plate ,well there wasnt anything left but steel shavings.
3rd is the only gear it happens in but idoesnt happen every time, any ideas

btw i have drivin many manuals even a couple of othe rx7s , but this one make everyone whos driven it feel like they just learned how drive a stick

also 3rd feels really close to 5th like:
1--3-5

2-4---r
is that right?my na wasnt like that

if the clutch has only 120 Mi on it i would think the clutch has not been broken in, and nothing personal, but was it installed right? might have not centerd or tightends somthing down proper maby? how are the shifter uper and lower bushings? i always give a new clutch 500 really really really easy mi, at different speeds, but never above 65-70mph on a new clutch, not saying my way is better than yours but it hasnt failed me yet in your situation i would whait untell the clutch is broken in, if it still dose it, its a syncro...rebuild/ swap out the tranny good luck man also, my NA dose this in 2nd gear. in my case its a messed up clutch that messed up the trans, hope this isnt the case with you

nothing personal at all i didnt install it , and ive been pretty hard on it like 120mph, cruise between85-90 (for the whole 120mile trip home) drifted it before i bought it , ye kno just stretch her legs before the purchase. but the clutch was installed before she was brought home. so maybe its my fault maybe it was f'd before i mean there was no friction plate left on the old clutch. idk time will tell

Clutch problems won't show up when shifting into one gear alone. You'd have problems in all gears. What you're describing just sounds like the 3rd gear synchro is wearing out.

For the shifter position, I'd check the bushings. If they're missing or broken, the shifter will sit differently and require more motion.
