The 300 lights appr: 14" across x 9" Length/N-S

For starters on that black car, that bumper had no FTP lenses to start with (maybe I'm wrong).

If the 300zx lights are shorter ..9" (north-South, then this person had to have fab'd in metal/something to fill in the 11" measurement on the FC light. follow? the 300 lights are about 2" shorter from the North to south measurement.

Then the length: the fc is 10.5" across or ( east-west) and you would have to cut into the hood.. which is not big deal really, just remember when its cut, theres no turning back.

Getting back to this black bumper, that facia appears to have not had FTP lenses. If you look the bottom of the lights, they are higher than were a FTP lense would be... follow?... thats what I'm guessing anyway....

thoughts??? MY friend has a 300zx so I thought I'd save some of you that are on the fence with this conversion some time by doing the measuring for ya...

hope this helps....
it looks to me like the guy left his ftp's in and filled in over them...with bondo perhaps.

i knew about him extending the hood, you can tell that from looking at the picture. it wouldnt be a problem, and neither would cutting into the hood...i got my fc for free anyways .

the only thing im worried about is that bondo might not work too good covering the ftp's (it may crack), but it is a part of the car that wont see much flexing if any, so i dont think it will matter. oh, and finding a pair of 300zx headlights on the cheap...the real cheap...

ive attatched a pic showing where he extended the hood and where the ftps would be...he probably cut into the hood too like you said on the sides if the 300zx lights are 3.5" wider. no big deal...i just wish i had a pair of headlights to play with...

Yup I too noticed the extendo-hood.. I don't think the bondo would last either. Its a one-off conversion and the only person that could tell us if it lasts lives in Japan. Okay, how bout late 3000 GT lamps? I was driving next one today and thought." hmmmmmm" ... Honestly, by the time you get done dink'n around, ya might as well have bought the RE-A Y2k.... seen one for 1000.00 new...

the 3000gt headlights are too curvy for the flat nose of the rx7, i looked at some up close today. they start from the back with a slight curve and it gets sharper and sharper downward towards the front, so they would stick out and not match the FC front end well.

the 300zx lights are perfect because they have just the right amount of curve to them to fit, as you can see in the side shot. and the 300zx front end is pretty flat like the FC's. im probably going with a fiberglass hood with hood pins anyways to take some weight off the front end (which these lights would help with too) so im not worried about longevity as i wont be slamming my hood much. now all i need are some bagain basement headlights so i can start cutting my bumper...

I like the pop ups myself but I must say for the FC that 300ZX conversion is the best of any conversion I have seen. I would like to have round headlights in the pop ups instead of squares why does someone not make a kit for that?

OR a 1st gen, which in my experience has a superior lighting pattern to the rectangular sealed beams in the FC.

Options here:
Fab sleek light kit yourself

Shell out a grand

go sleepy eye (again fab yourself)

install Hella sealed beam conversion lenses, with some decent bulbs

lol, the RE FC2000 kit is the fugliest thing ive ever seen on an FC, there is not a kit out there that, or custom that ive seen, that makes the car look better than with pop ups, it was designed with pop ups in mind and looks the best with them. i agree, if you want 300z headlight, buy a 300z, im just not one for putting body parts from other cars on cars they werent intended to be on, even though sometimes it does look really good, like that eclipse with teh S15 headlights, that looks really hot, but still just doesnt strike my fancy since they werent intended for that car. the only headlight alterations ive seen that look good are the dual lights in the stock pop up housing, but other than that, bear is ugly as hell, the old RE one just has holes for the headlights, looks really cheap IMO.
