Thumbs up 3 rotor 2nd gen?

ok i got a 2nd gen rx-7(87) i want to 3 rotor it is this possible if so who can do it and whats the price on something like that? i figure a 3 rotor is rare but in a 87 it would be even rarer or maybe i need to do some homework lol anyhow thats one of my project cars in the works. Another car even though everyone may laugh is a 86 Dodge colt premire(not the van looking ones the sedan) it already has a 4g61 in it and turbo but that was stock i heard you can put a turbo 4g63 in it which would do nicely considering that cars weight and its already nice hp (138).Anyway though i got off subject would it be nessacary to twin turbo a 3 rotor i know most people only single 2 rotors but would it help any to twin turbo? any help is nice thanks

SEARCH!!!

Costs about $15,000 if you do the work yourself.

Alot of custom fabricated parts are needed, and you are gonna need a lot of time to do it.

Ok... I've been wondering this a while.

Why couldn't you just get a FMIC, Mounts, and use the Cosmo's ECU? I don't see where all the cost comes from.

The engine and rebuild are probably close to $6000
Youd need motor mounts, IC, radiator, tranny work (I think), clutch, flywheel, exhaust sytem, etc

Not really the fact that you have to buy alot of stuff, but youa re gonna need to rebuild alot

I don't think there's drivetrain work involved (how many 275HP TII's are there with stock trannies?) but exhaust, Mounts, radiator, and IC.

and a rebuild is 1½ 13B rebuilds. You can use all the same ****. It's amazing I've never heard of a 20B with a port job. (Other than Jose's N/A PP 20B)

Ok, so 1 1/2 Rebuilds.

Thats $4000 for a motor from like fc3s.org, then another $1500 for a good rebuild kit. $5500 in the engine alone

Damn! Really? People need to make some friends higher up in the air-force.

My friend Rusty can get one for half of that!

Noone's willing to undergo a 20B swap.

Maybe later in life, I'll attempt the ULTIMATE N/A. Until then, I won't bother with anything like that.

The 20B swap isn't as expensive as everyone says. It CAN be done cheaper, but many people just go the extra yard in the begining.

the torque a 3 rotor produces is what kills drivetrain, as soon as you get some good tyres which allow traction, you'll start breaking diffs and boxes

Get your heads out of your asses for costs, I've got a write-up that brings up price to at least $10,000.&nbsp That assumes ZERO cost for labor, which either you're a very talented fabricator, or you've got some very enthusiastic/stupid friends to help you in this project.

We're typically DOUBLE the minimum cost to get the car up and running on the street - that makes it #20k.

+100# engine weight up front.
plus it cost so much.

nm ill stick with the 13b itll keep weight distribution even. erase my dreams of a 20b in my 7.

The 20B comes with twin turbos from the factory. It is probably best to just start with the twins, get the car running, and then convert to a single turbo later if you feel the need. My car would have been finished a long time ago had I done this. Also, if your 87 is a non-turbo, I highly recommend selling it and starting with a TII for the 20B conversion - I learned this the hard way.

This seems pretty accurate to me, based on my experience with the 20B. However, I notice that a lot of people who do not own a 20B have rather strange opinions on the cost and difficulty of the swap, so I wish them luck on their $5 notional conversions, LOL.

This link also covers the FC conversion.
