1. There is really no reason for doing this but there is probably some stupid thing that they changed. Not sure.
2.Yeah, they should fit, and I assume you mean 1000cc not 100.
3. Absolutely no freakin idea.

They are different, and the S5 one is better. It has longer , fatter runners. BUT, it's not really worth spending much extra time and money on. If you have an S5 intake mnaifold or can get one cheap, and you need to take your existing manifold off, then it's worth doing. Other wise I wouldn't go out of my way.

S5 has longer runners.
This implies is has LESS potential for flow.
Longer runners is for better airflow velocity, especially at low RPM's.
As the RPM's get higher, you'd want shorter runners cause you want to get the air into the engine as quick as possible.

Unless someone shows dyno proof that there is significant difference of power between the two, it's a waste of time in my book.

But it also has fatter runners, which implies is has MORE potential for flow. The increase in runner size looks to be more significant than the increase in length.

Runner length has little effect of air velocity. All things being equal, longer runners moves the torque peak lower in the rev range (Helmholtz resonance tuning). A lot of the S5's engine changes were to increase the spread of torque to increase drivability and flexibility.

If you have easy access to the manifold (i.e .cheap) and feel like doing the work, there's no reason not to do it. There must be something in it, or Mazda wouldn't have gone to all the trouble to retool for a completely different manfold.

You would want to post the LT8 and LT8S question in the Microtech section of this board
