Question 3 electrical questions on a S5 N/A

First, when the dash lights are dimmed, does the excess energy get dissapated across a resistor? The reason I'm asking is I have recently installed a indiglo dash and need to decrease the intensity of the lights that illuminate the front of the gauges, I will remove the bulbs that are designed to shine through the stock gauges. Reason, I don't want the dimmer control heating up trying to keep the remaining bulbs dim

Second, for the power feed for the indiglo lights, where is the best place to get power under the dash, clean and safe?

Third, while in the dash, I found this connector disconnected, what is it for?

Thanks

yes, it will use some form of resistor (maybe rotary/ potentiometer style). It's feasible you could add an extra conventional in-line resister to the dimmer circuit, or just wear shades, then they won't seem as bright

Thanks Wayne88N/A, but for now the sunglasses will be for the day only! :D

The dimmer circuit might be of less interest now, I was working on the dash tonight and found that the indiglo gauges look kinda cool when they are front lit with a blue light

Bump!

So no one knoews what this connector is for?

Or has a suggestion for a power take off under the dash?

BTW I found the the indiglo dash look good when illuminated from the front by blue light, does anyone know if you can get blue bulbs to fit the stock location?

Thanks

We need:

The number of wires in the connector.

The number of sockets in the connector.

The color of each wire in the connector.

Its location. On the left of the ???? or the right of the???? How high relative to some fixed object.

Is it possible the connector is for the Automatic? Or perhaps something like Cruise Control

I appreciate the offer to assist, the picture shows it's location. I guess that I should have indicated that this was a picture taken through the dash opening.

There are a number of unused places in the socket, a total of 5 wires are going through it( from memory), as for the location it is in the picture, as shown, behind the instrument cluster, on the left side. I can't see the color of the wires, as there is virtually no slack available so I can't pull it further out.

My concern for this connector is because the other end is there as well, I don't recall undoing it and I'm not aware of anything that is not working either...

Thanks

I don't thinks so, the car has a standard trans, and the cruise is working.
