3.5k rpm idle!

After replacing the spark plug wires and fixing various vacuum leaks that required the removal of the UIM I started the car and was greeted with a scarily high idle that refuses to go down. It revs all the way to 3.5k rpm's and sits there. I don't think such a high idle is good for a cold engine so I shut it off immediately and first attempted to correct the problem by loosening the throttle cable and then by adjusting that screw on the side of the BAC(is that a correct thing to do?). Neither thing worked. I haven't set the TPS yet since I'm not quite sure how to get the right readings on this multimeter I just bought.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Sounds like the AWS thermo wax is stuck open or the cold start cam is jammed...

I had a similar thing happen to me, it turned out that my BAC took a ****. Tap on it to see if its stuck, and go from there.

This things wires were brittle and broke off as I was reinstalling the UIM. I gave it my best guess as to which wires connected to where before I reconnected them. Would this cause the problem if I had reconnected them wrong?

I disconnected the wires to that and switched their positions. The car runs strong again! Thanks to those that helped.
