2nd gen possibly flooded need a bit of advice...
Theres a second gen at a local shop that my friend knows of that could use some help. I haven't seen the car personally but they just called me up since I used to have an rx7 and figured I could help. I don't have many details but apparently the car was sitting for a while, and they fired it up and it shot a flame that caught the bumper on fire or something and now it runs but it runs like ****. I figured it was flooding or something but any other suggestions before I take a look at it? I know there aren't many details exactly, but I couldn't really think of many things that would cause it to shoot a flame and suddenly run like **** after sitting for a while.
I don't get what would suddenly make it run rich or get the TPS thrown off though since apparently it ran fine before sitting there. I don't know how long it was off for though. I told him to check the compression and try an unflooding procedure, but aside from that I dunno what else would suddenly get fucked up.
Well the TPS has a magic voodoo way of unadjusting it self sometimes.
Anyways. Flooding would not cause the car to run like absolute ****. Flooding makes the car hard to start, and smoke bad until all the gas is out. But it still doesn't explain the car running like ****.
Again..try readjusting the TPS, checking for vaccum leaks, and the like.

I agree with adrock. The car was initially flooded, causing the flame when it finally 'caught'.
Anyways, now that the car in question is RUNNING, it's a completely different story. Like you (Ocelot) suggested, compression testing would be the first order of buisness. If that turns out fine, then there could be any number of problems causing it to run like it does.
If the compression turns out good, do you plan on checking out the car personally? It would be difficult for you to direct any of the Rx7 troubleshooting procedures without physically being there to help...

Well I don't exactly have the full details explaining the "running like ****" and I don't even know if it's running at all, so I just assumed it could be flooding and maybe not firing up. I should be checking it personally if they dont get it fixed up. Wouldn't the fuel fouled plugs make it run shitty if they weren't replaced if they got it initially started though? Either way i'll probably be taking a look at it, and if I can't figure it out i'll at least see the symptoms first hand so I can report back and see if you guys have any suggestions.
Ok, just got a call and here are the most recent symptoms. When they first started it up, lots of white smoke, so coolant seal I assume. Then the smoke dies out and it starts to run really shitty AFTER its fully warmed up. I told them to do a compression test but once I heard one of the guys say something about 2 of the cylinders not firing, I just told them to stop, lol
