Does the heat shielding around our 2nd gen precats contain asbestos? I ask this because I'm in the process of taking mine off my 88 vert, and the outer layers are flaking all over the place, and there's this white fibrous layer underneath...

 

I don't know, but it's a common high-heat insulator. Don't worry, US DOT allows for the asbestos clutch dust to be vented to the roadway, hence we breathe it daily.
