2nd and 3rd gen alternators interchangable ?

i guess i need a new alternator for my 7. i hope someone knows if the 2nd gen (89 S5 model) engine will fit a 3rd gen alternator without any modifications ? If not ill just buy a stock unit, no big deal. Thanks guys.

ah crap way too much work for me heh im trying to sell the car so i just want it to be running. Thanks for the input though.

Okay, if you're just trying to sell the car, take your core into an autozone or something and buy a remanned alternator, but make sure you give the receipt for it to the buyer.

The FD alternator is considered a relatively easy upgrade, but it's not a straight drop-in.
