280whp Goal...

1990 TII...

I'm about to rebuild my Jspec. My plan is to give it a mild streetport; maybe slight exhaust-port porting; thorough TB porting; extrudehone UIM; 720cc secondaries; Walbro 255lph pump + rewire; 3inch non-restricted exhaust; nice & straight TID; SAFC; Profec B.... thats all I can think of as of now...

Oh yea, the most important... the turbo I'm using is the Garrett that came with the Jspec. All I know is that the A/R is 1.15, and compared against the stock Hitachi, this one has a compressor side that has about a 5-10% bigger inlet. I'm hoping this, along with the mods listed above will net me close to 14-16 lbs of boost.

I dunno.... there's no way I can accurately know the specs to the turbo, so I will take a picture of it later and maybe it will help you guys to help me...

Now my question, do you guys think this will get me anywhere near my rwhp goal? Also, will the SAFC alone be able manage the fuel properly for this power level.... or should I really be aiming/saving up towards a stand-alone (either Haltech or Microtech).

Yes, easy.

will the SAFC alone be able manage the fuel properly for this power level
I think so, but you're definitely in Haltech/? territory (where it'd do you some real good) with the bigger turbo.

What are you doing for an IC?

Cheers

edit: 280, I saw 250 b4. Still IMO you'll be there. Maybe bigger secondaries or an extra. I made nearly 200 and I don't have much, check my sig.

Yes a fmic will give you great gains and make it safer to run at that boost level. Definitely get one. Next, what about the wastegate? Is there an external one or is it ported to hell? You will not have a problem getting to 14-16psi with straight 3" exhaust and a good TID. Problem will be controlling it. You should easily get to your goal with a fmic though. Just make sure you have some quality gauges to monitor everything.

Cool thanks for the replies. My real concern was whether the SAFC would be able to manage the fuel for 280hp...

Hmm, bigger injectors? What size injectors would you suggest? And do I also need a FPR?

As for the turbo, the wastegate is internal, but it looks to have quite a large wastegate hole already.

I have not really put much thought for the intercooler though... This would put me slightly out of my budget, so do you guys have any ideas? I can have the piping and everything cut and welded by a friend, so I basically need just the core w/ endtanks. What are my options here?

Thanks for the help so far!

I use a S-AFC with 720 primaries and 1000 secondaries and I am pushing over 330 .... RWHP, you can get over 280 with a S-AFC no problem.

If you had a better EMS then maybe 1,600s in the 2nds.

http://www.rx7.com/cgi-local/2ndgencalc.cgi It doesn't look like 720s would be enough, 850s or so maybe. This is at stock fuel pressure too I'm pretty sure.
