I know how you feel man my FE is AT. Most of the time I curse it but sometimes im just damn lazy and enjoy it. It realy is not all that hard to convert a car you need a pedal assembly a hole saw a drill and some interior pices. But since you want to keep it AT more power to you. I have no clue on the durabilty of one. I can only asume it is stronger. I would gues you will spend around 200$ for one and shiping.

In the era..

Mazda had 3 types of transmissions.

The 20B has the Turbo 2 transmission, but of the FD age. One is pull, one is push.

The 20B's transmission is not as strong as the Turbo 2's, aka the Turbo 2 transmission is stronger then the FD transmission. Or at least so I've "heard", quite a few times.

Learn to drive stick, or order a T2 Auto tranny.

Please don't post if you don't have any idea what you are talking about.

The Cosmo 20B all came with JATCO automatic transmissions that are specific that that application.
The Cosmo auto trans does NOT fit into an FC3S chassis.

All Turbo II's (US-Spec) came in 5-speed manual transmissions ONLY.
There was no such thing as a US-spec FC3S turbo with automatic transmission that was offered from the Mazda dealer stock.

The FC turbo transmission is BASICALLY THE SAME THING as the FD transmission.
The FD has more / better synchros AND THAT'S IT.
In fact, you can swap gears set if you wanted to between the gear boxes.

Now, back to the original posters queries...
Please check the 20B section on converting your FC to handle the 20B engine.
I think you're way in over your head.
I dunno what you think is a "lot of power", but a 13BT can produce 400hp easily, which is more than enough for most people.

True. But, there were in fact Jspec TII auto trannys. This is what was refered to when it was sugested to order one.... Corksport had a couple last time I checked.

Ted, please stop being such a dick...

Now, wether that tranny will even work with a 20B is probably unknown because no one who does a 20b swap wastes the time or effort to do it when it is better to use a manual.

Doing a 20B swap is a rather large investment, but from what I have heard it is very worth it. Rather than bash you and say that your over your head I will simply point you in the right direction...

He never said he wanted a 20b.

He said he wanted to stay auto and he heard 20b motors came with an auto trans.

He wants to use a 20b auto trans because he thinks it would be stronger than his n/a auto.

I don't think Ted was being a dick. The person he quoted was passing on info that even he wasn't sure was correct. Far to much BS gets passed on around this forum. Even I got confused reading adrock3217 post.

Yes, adrock's post was incorrect, but Ted also blasted the original poster for trying to put in a 20b in when he didn't even say he was going to put one in.
As for the tranny, I would suggest getting an auto from a j-spec car. Since they were all Turbos I'm sure they are stronger. I would contact corksport about it as suggested.

holy mackrel boys....

Perhaps one of the items on tshirt "you know you're a 7 owner when" should be:

You read posts from whiny little fruits who complain about posts from other whiny little fruits who were distressed about a correct post made by a moderator...

RELAX - and Ted right to point out that the guy is in over his head if he's thinking about a 20b swap.....try making similar numbers with a 13b first then think about a 20b swap....

CORRECT he didn't say he is going to but come on - he said he wants to put in a 20B auto tranny...what do you think his next logcial thought is going to be for a mating engine?

GEEEZ sometimes you guys get so technical it makes me wanna get a job at the post office....

The 20B autotranny might handle more power, but the required fabrication along with the loss of power using an auto makes it nearly worthless.

It would actually be easier going through the trouble of installing a manual tranny then trying to get the 20B auto to fit.

I suggest you reread everything before posting falsehoods.

From the original poster...
...or order a T2 Auto tranny.
There is NO such thing as a "T2 Auto tranny".
"T2" implies US-Spec, since the FC3S turbo was NEVER called a "Turbo II" or "T2" in Japan...or outside of the US / North America.

Ted, please stop being such a dick...
You got a problem with me, PM me in private.
Try and keep your personal attacks on me out of the threads, cause it's already bad enough that you're wrong, but now you look like a whiny bitch who's also wrong.

Happy New Year.

You need to learn how to drive a 5-speed if you think an NA tranny can be built for that.

I'm guessing it'll be a grand or two if someone had even the parts. Not to mention there are no aftermarket torque converters.

PS: Go Ted. He's just making sure people don't misinform peeps.

IMO your best bet may be to fab a FD AT trany in. That trany should hold 350hp at the flywheel. They came with 280 in japan from factory.
