2000 revs??!

hi there
i just installed a new alternator in my 87 TII
its an fd alternator and it works great it gives me much more electrical power and its awesome
but one problem, since the install yesterday
it seems as though my choke is staying on or something or its staying in warm up mode
i cant get it to go down below 2000 revs at all
and its definetly warmed up
any ideas of what could be the problem
i didnt change any hoses or anything
i have no ideas...
thanks in advance

Have you tried using the Idle adjust screw to lower idle? Otherwise I would say you have a vaccume leak.

Check the water temp sensor on back of the thermostat housing. I think if that is messed up it can click into warm up mode and not come out. You may have knocked it loose when moving the alt around.

Beyond that, is the car running rich through the rpm band or is it just the high idle?

well it seems as thought the revs never go below 2k
i mean if im drivng and stuff and come to a stop it still sits at 2k+
i mean i was workingaround the intercooler piping, around the throttle cable, and the water temp sensor
it could be somthing to do with one of those
but the throttle cable looked fine and adjusting the idle screw didnt change anything at all, like it didnt even make a difference, even with jumping the computer to make it accept a new idle speed
anyone have any other ideas or experiences?
thanks
