200$ s4 shell worth starting a project?
I haven't surfed the forums for a while.. Took the insurance odd the SA and been driving my sv650 around campus, but a buddy wants to get rid of a (pretty clean) s4 shell.... Primed black with no dents... Unknown engine problem, but I feel like me and my roomies could figure it out. What to do? (I'm mostly worried about some of the costs...it'll probably be a money pit if I do what I want to do with it)
Suggestions? I was thinking sort out the engine drop it a couple inches and gut it for a fun track car...maybe drop a tii engine in it if I so feel inclined. Comes with a Hayes manual...that's gotta be worth at least 200$ right there

If it doesn't work out, the scrap metal value alone is worth over $200.
I sold an engine with good compression and very little smoke at startup (good oil control rings.) for $400. So even if the engine's blown, you can get engines cheap too.
Even if you have to replace the engine, you're out $600. Not a bad price for a running car.
Even if some plows into you in an intersection six months later, that's $100 per month. Where are you gonna find a car payment for that?
Long story short, if you have the space and free time to work on it, REGARDLESS of the condition it is in or the options it has on it, $200 for a shell with engine is definitely worth it.

Yeah I'll let you guys know... I may buy it and just see if I can sort out the engine and sell it... I'm kinda worried if I commit to do it like I want to it's going to cost more than I have. College is not the right time for me to start the project that I have in mind when in a couple years I can start a 3rd gen project... But I'll post some pics when I go check it out again.. Btw yes it's been in Georgia it's whole life, so rust is not an issue
