Like the title says, I've run out of gas, and have a gallon of RC Airplane fuel in trunk. Will the 20 % nitro hurt the engine for a few miles? What a super-powered way to get to gas station.

Thanks,

PEACE THE DOG

Well, my life is going on schedule. The only guy who pays $ 30 a gallon for gas. Positive note though: 0-125 in 3.2 seconds.

I did some quick searching, and according to what I have read, its VERY slow burning and if you have cats or some form of exhaust it MIGHT be a problem.

I dont know if I would do it...

I used to have nitro r/c cars, and I would think it would have to burn fast to push those little engine to 30k+ rpms?

Well, it doesnt burn "FAST" theoretically, it just has 2.5 times the amount of stored energy by volume.

but then again, its only 20% nitro and the rest is alcohol. Your biggest problem may be from your o2 sensor not reading the exhaust right. If i remember correctly, the sensor is going to think your running very lean, so its going to dump a lot more fuel in.

I really doubt you'll run very well on that. With alochol (the 80%, well, the parts that aren't lubricants) cooling the combusion, you may have a hard time burning that nitro. Keep in mind that nitro cars burn what they can and detonate the rest.

I have a bit of experience with Nitro. See sig.

You would probably lose power, as it is a slower burning fuel. But I don’t think it would curse any problems for a short period of time

Remember that nitro burns hotter as well. Or at least it burns hotter than alcohol. 20% nitro on a hobbly plane meant for 5% can sometimes damage the engine.

OK, the update on the nitro! I didn't get any of these posts before I did it. I have, for all of you concerned, a 2 gallon gas can that had 1/2 a gallon in it. I thought twice about the nitro, then thought of the dragsters and what they run. Huh, similiar I would say!

I took 1/2 gallon of gas, and maybe a pint of nitro, and drove straight to gas station. What a rush that was. Filled her up, well 40 bucks worth, almost 2/3 a tank on my 90 vert, sorry, son's vert, and put 1/2 gallon in for ***** and giggles. I tell you what, the difference in noticeable pickup, and more power was extreme. I mean a big difference instantly.

Damage to anything? I am going to tear down a bit this weekend for some maintenance, plugs, oil, filters, fuel for sure, and will take pictures. Oh wtf, I want to see the plugs now. Will be back in 10 minutes with plug photos.

If all is good, I am going to use as a premix. I will post photos soon, and exact ingredients of nitro, with the lubricants it contains.

PEACE THE DOG

My camera sucks, but here is what the plugs look like. I changed them about 2 weeks ago, so after I run this 40 buck, plus a little nitro, maybe a half gallon and see!

DON'T DO IT!!!!! YOU WILL DESTROY YOUR ENGINE. Your engine will run LEAN and HOT on this fuel and detonation/preignition will destroy your engine.

The air/fuel mixture for methanol/nitromethane and the castor/syn oil blend in your RC fuel is much different than straight gasoline.

I dumped 30% heli fuel in my old lawnmower for kicks because I was getting a newer self-propelled mower. The motor ran like hell for 2 minutes and the seized. You should have seen the bright red exhaust.

GET A gas can or you will have had a very expensive lesson.
