What color is the smoke? Does it smell sweet, or like oil?

Number of things can cause your car to smoke... Turbo, coolant seals (my guess that if your cooant seals were toast, it wouldn't stp smoking, oil contol rings/seals...

If its white, and smells sweet, chances are you are burning coolant

If it's blueish, its probably oil.

and if you think you're burning coolant
take off your coolant pressure cap and start your car with it off and look for little bubbles.
This is exhaust pushing through the coolant seals and means you need to rebuild your motor.

P.S. dont take off the overflow tank cap and expect bubbles lol, its the other one!!!

could it be blowby? is the little hose attached to your oil filler neck?

um it's usually normal for it to smoke a tad bit on start up because oil pools in the bottom of the rotor housing when turned off and when you turn the car back on it has to burn all that oil out so it does smoke some. How much are we talking about here? Open exhaust on an rx7 usually does yeild some back firing witch most people seem to like, lol. How much smoke are we talking about here as well? Also what you may want to do to reduce the amount of backfiring is to properly tune your car with an safc or something like that.

i know plenty of rx-7s that produce no visible smoke at startup including mine (knock on wood)

you mean like the OMP working after combustion is stopped? dunno

Put it this way when i backfire it kinda looks like i'm james bond and putting up a smoke screen to get away ...but not that much, u can still see though it...i love doing this to nice bmw's and other nice cars lol oh and samperry007 search deez nutts...you put what i asked in the search engine and see what comes up

The way the rotary is designed it's normal to see a bit of smoke on initial startup, but not large amounts.

oh my god, this forum blows *** today

second reply ive gotten shot down by teh 404

basically it said, az good, ca bad.

az cops dont care about car mods. i see trans ams w/ humongous blowers, slicks and wheelie bars driving on scottsdale rd (the main rd of this huge super yuppy city) and they dont care
ive never once seen a cop on the ground looking under a car or even have a hood up

california sucks for car lovers
