1st gen headlight treatment

Was thinking about some unique light conversions and thought it would be really nice to swap out to pop up round lights like the 1st gens. Our lights pop straight up and just the covers rotate, right? but on 1st gens the entire assambly rotates up, light and cover together it seems to me. One could swap the entire light assembly from a 1st gen into our cars but would need to put our lid covers back on to finish the lines correctly. I wonder how hard it would really be? It just seems right to have round lights, and they would match the round tails too. I think I'm going to check out the 1st gens at my local junk yard and have a look-see tomorrow.
Hmmmmmm
any thoughts?

go to round because the car has nice curves and rounds look better, much the same reason mazda went from rectangle tails to round tails.

Seems like a hell of a lot of work for nothing. Using round lights would be easy, but using the mechanism from a 1st gen would be quite annoying for no real gain (you'd only notice the difference in the 1 second it takes the lights to move up).

If you want to use round lights, you just need to build a new mounting flange.

yeah I was thinking about that last night, it's just the surround around the face of the light and the mounting brackets inside the housing that need to change. But I think that the cosmetic improvement to the front of the car would be well worth the work.
