Question 1st gen distributer swap into 2nd gen

does anyone know what goes where to use the 1st gen distributer on a 2nd gen ? I want to go holley intake & I've got just about everything I just don't know how the ignition connects to either use the stock 2nd gen coils or the 1st gen coils.
If anyone knows please spread the knowledge.

Using a dizzy in the 2nd gen means setting it up exactly the same as in the 1st gen. Get a dizzy and coil set from an '81+ since that's when they dumped the points and went to ignitors. Then follow the FSM for the 1st gen to wire it up.

Just being a bitch here, but I had a first generation and I can assure you, that there were two ignitors on it. On the distributor. Sorry, couldn't let that pass.

http://www.mazdatrix.com/ign-1.htm

I had the lead one fail on me at the lake. Swapped the two over and got my power/lead plugs back. Been there, done that.

Yeah, they had clickity clack points also.

You can use the 1980 dist with out the igniters and just use it to trigger msd style ign.

to condense the info, 79's had the traditional points and condensor ignition system. 1980 added electronic ignition, but yeilded ignitors seperate from the distributor body. 1981-85 incorporated the ignitors onto the distributor body, being held in place by two screws each. the 84-85 GSL-SE used the same distributor and ignitors as the 12A powered cars.

I don't get what I posted wrong?

I skipped the '80 setup because of the weird mutt external ignitors. They're hard to find if you need a replacement. Even the 81+ ignitors are difficult to find unless you order from Mazdatrix.

Any 13B dizzy will work but if you want the "good" ones then you need to go 81+.

I had a 82 first generation RX-7. It had two ignitors. One for lead, one for Trail. Since you wrote the words (* '81 + since that's when they dumped the points and went to ignitors*). Those words are not quite right. I had points and ignitors on my 82.

Not a big deal. It was a joking dig at you and nothing more and nothing less. Any owner of a first gen should keep a spare ignitor and screwdriver/wrench with him on trips. Just in case. I always did.

i dont think you posted anything wrong. i think think the questions are directed towards the original poster wanting to use either an SA or an FB distributor instead of the CAS.

This **** should not be in the FC section.
It's more suited for the 1G or even the NA section???

Buy a first gen distributor and the first gen coils. Then look at the manual on this site: http://foxed.ca/rx7manual/manuals/19...l%20Manual.pdf

Thumb thru it til you see the distributor diagrams. It shows a b/w wire powering the coils etc. You use the BLACK/YELLOW wire in the small two socket connector at the present Lead coil on your car, in place of the b/w wire in the diagrams.

That's as far as I care to go with this. Your making a mistake, but have fun doing it anyway. It's a step backwards imho. I've no more to say on this subject.

Again, you don't seem to understand what you're trying to do...

You're basically GUTTING the stock FC ignition system and stuffing a 1st gen ignition system in it's place.
Hell, you just THREW AWAY the stock FC fuel system also...

So who would be more familiar with this kinda systems?
1st gen folks...

THIS is why I suggested you go asking in the 1st gen section rather than get blank stares from this 2nd gen section.
99% of the FC owners in here have no clue what you are talking about and trying to do.

Sheez, I was just trying to direct you to better help and ****...

I just dont understand why, people keep posting questions n comments like "why" & "No" about carbs, its not your car so dont worry about what choice the person is making, either help or dont say nothing, its very annoying, Now if its your car its different, But anyways carbs are the way to go simple n Power, But with gas prices now a day I would never go carbs unless running my car on the track but its daily so its still FI. But if your car is S4 I know you can use the Stock ignition system my S4 was running fine with Webers, but this S5 we have here with Holley is giving problem dont know why it doesnt runn to long/ taken long *** time to start. but good luck with your project man.

It's actually a popular upgrade on SAs and FBs to install 2nd gen coils. Why are you taking them off? There are many write ups and threads covering this in the 1st gen section as stated above.

Why not just use a Megasquirt to control the stock FC ignition system?

'Cause you can buy a first gen distributor with ignitors for cheap.

It's not like a Megasquirt is expensive though.

But for someone with no knowledge, a Megasquirt is basically a vertical learning curve. I've fixed so many botched installs regarding standalones (the Megasquirt especially) that it's hard to make that recommendation to someone who needs to ask how to install a dizzy.
