Elfking, I can pretty much guarentee you what your problem is, I had the same problem with mine, your rev problem does it start to strugle with climing alot right around the 4k mark maybe a bit below, I have 5bucks that your 2ndary Fuel injector plug came undone or the clamps broke happened to mine, and its happend to a couple of people I know, if you know where to look then good if not ill tell you, I used tie wraps to fix mine, and my reving is spot on perfect I bet that is your problem not cat or plugs or anything else, althouh they still are possiblities but your problem sounds like your 2ndary Fuel injector coming undone, hit me back up with a detailed description of your lag yoru speaking of
All the Best,
Stu

Thanks again for the replies. Im sure that this car is worth the 4k. With the low miles on the origional motor, and the upgrade that have been done. And how clean the interior is and engine bay is even cleaner then most 1991's ive seen. I can understand why the price is being asked. As you have all said its hopefully just something as simple as the exaust system being plugged up or the secondary injector wiring being loose.

Thanks all.

if the secondary injectors came unplugged i'm sure it wouldn't even go over 4k rpm.

i dunno about you guys, but i've seen the car and it's immaculate shape. it's not to often that you come across fc's in this shape in and out. naturally a car will get dings but hey, what can you do about stupid people in parking lots who don't know how to stop their door when opening it. personally if i had the money i'd take it for 3800, but then again some t2's are priced along the range of 7-8k so is 4k so bad? just my .02 cents =)

by the way, i've checked the car myself when i was inquiring the owner about purchase, compression checks out, no signs of leaks anywhere of any kind. also power seemed good. so yeah, a good buy IMO

Just so you know, Among the multitude of rx7's I've owned, have been an 87 GXL and a 90 GXL.
The 90 GXL was hands down much more powerfull than the 87. Much torquier, and it would also just plain wind out way quicker. No comparison. My 87 actually felt slow untill about 70 km/hr.
Both were bone stock and in mint condition.
Well, now my 90 is a turbocharged frankencar butchered beyond recognition!
