1990 Wheel & Tire Advice Needed

I am in the process of changing my 1986 4 lug wheels to 1990 4 piston 5 lugs. Good idea or not. My question is: what size wheels are recomended for optimal performance and what are the best size tires? Front vs. rear etc. Thanks.

Do you need new master cylinder?? I am about to do the same. MY single pisten brakes is stil nice but the seals are about to go so iam getting a 5 lug kit with brakes. As far as tires you will have to give us more info. Like does it snow around where you live?? It does snow in Cali!! What kind of driving you do, now hard you drive, and how long do you want your tires to lass stuff like that.

Yo,

Turbo or NA? What are you looking to do with it?

I'll say 16" is the best compromise for light weight vs. looks.

Stock size for the GTUs/TII is 16 x 7, +40.

Really depends on your driving skills. The larger the diameter of your wheels, the less sidewall you have and the less warning you get when you're about to break traction. 16s are a good compromise, but 17s are ideal; less sidewall = less slip angle. If I were you, I'd go with 16s.

1986 NA Factory new engine 4,000 miles ago. Lightly modified, Racing Beat exhaust, coilover suspension, upgraded clutch, intake upgraded. nothing fancy though. Rarely, if ever, sees snow. Mostly fast highway/agressive street driving. Also looking for brake manufacturer recomendations. Slotted best? Goodridge Brake lines? Thanks again

I've got 5Zigen 17's but would have preferred if they came in 16's and spent the extra cash on some Racing Beat springs. Like GTU guy said, 16's are the best compromise of looks and results. Maybe 16's with a 215 tire all around.

I too recommend 16x7 with a 35mm to 40mm offset. going any bigger will actually lower handling performance as well as slow the car down (unless you spend an arm and leg on ultra-lightweight sub-16lb wheels).

Many AutoX's actually use the 15x6.5 wheel from the 'verts, instead of going to a 16inch wheel
