AL 1990 RX7 Turbo II speakers?

How many speakers are in a 1990 Turbo II coupe?

I went by Bestbuy and they told me 4 5-1/4 inch speakers. 2 in front dash and 2 in back, however when I checked my car myself it appears that there are 2 more in the doors, does anyone know what size the speakers are in the door? it looks kinda cramped for 5-1/4 inches. I'm looking into replacing all the factory speakers considering they are all very old and 3 of them are blown...Anyway as always thank you for the help.

You're correct that there are 6 total... I long forgot the sizes though.

I looked in the manual and even the Haynes repair manual and it doesnt really say anything about the speakers. I believe the front 2 and back 2 are 5-1/4 but I really have no idea about the door speakers, I don't know how to take off the door panel and look at them.

There's a screw inside the door handle cover, then a screw under that piece. Then screws on the bottom side of the armrest(you'll see the holes), then screws on the bottom of the panel in the fabric material(kind of hidden a bit), and a screw in the top front, and a series of clips that will pop out when you pull on it. Its simple, takes like 2 minutes literally.

I believe the under dash speakers are 4" and the rears are 6 1/2". 5 1/4" sounds right for the doors. I'm guessing the Haynes manual doesn't specify speaker sizes because there were so many different options over the years, and the Haynes covers '86-92. Many S4 models had only 4 speakers, some had smaller rear speakers, headrest speakers in the 'Vert, there were many different head units (AM/FM only, radio plus cassette decks, equalizers, CDs, etc.).

That sounds right to me.
Sugestion. Don't use the 4s in the front. They they are in shitty positions for sound. If you want a little bigger for the doors, I have 6 1/2 speakers in the doors, only minor work to make them work.

uuuuuuuum in my 90 tii i have window track mounts in the way of any possibility of putting speakers in there, and there were never any speakers in ther to begin with.
your best bet is to pop off your door interior and look for yourself. its not too hard.

I have what appears to be 6 1/2 in my doors on my 88 Vert, but the membrane is touching the door cover, but the new and old speakers are the same size (the ring around the speaker), but not the speaker itself it seems like.

need fc. How is it possible for your seatbelt to go all the way to the front and bottom of your door panel? The stock 5.5" go there. the 4s are under the dash. Although I beleive that is just for S4s. I have never seen the 4s in ony of the three s5 verts i have owned.

Jimmydanny. Are your 6.5"s above the armrest in your vert? The S4 had 4" under the dash, 5.5" in the center of the doors, above the armrest(premium stereo only). The backs where 6" (I think that was stock) but its really easy to put 6.5s back there. I've even seen one that had 8" mid bass in it and sealed.
The S5s have..5.5" in the lower door panel. and 6 (or 6.5?) in the shock towers.

Convertibles are of course completely different. 6X9s behind the driver and 3"(?) in the headrests.

I thought they were 6.5" in the armrest in the door. 5,5" doesnt exist almost, very rare at least, no high quality speakers in that size. I know 5 1/4" exist, but they are not too many of.

But I will cut a bigger hole for mine, or move them down to the door compartment thingy instead,

for people who don't regularly do audio/security/interior work, the door panels are only "easy"to remove and install if you do a shoddy job.

be careful pulling off the door panels. keep track of where each screw goes because they are not all the same. Keep track of all the clips on the bottom and make sure you replace any that break. Otherwise the door panels will not feel solid anymore. they will flex when you open and close the door because they are not fastened down solidly.

3.5" in your dash (at your knees and under the glove box), 6.5" speakers (doors, and the hatch) - 6.75" speakers will also fit these locations.

There are 4" in my dash, and the ones in the doors can't be 6,5" in the doors. This is in an S4 cab, if you mean S5, specifiy so people like me don't get confused

Anyways, where can you get ny clips for the doors? I lost one or two on both sides.

Doesn't anyone bother to read the FAQ anymore?

Someone says the door ones (armrest) are 6.5, some says 6, some say 5.5. The only sizes available in Norway are 5.25 and 6.5, then 8". There are no in between. My guess is the door ones are 5.25 then.

The original door speakers (in a convertible at least) are just what the FAQ says: 6". But since you can't find 6" speakers anywhere, 6.5" ones work just fine. I just replaced mine a couple months ago.

6.5" didn't fit in my car, the membrane is touching the door cover when having my CD-player louder than 20 (out of 60 or something), Pioneer. So that can't be it. Is Mazda really so stupid they put in a speaker size that is impossible to get hold of? I mean, it was 120W Kenwoods in my car, so there must be some more logic to this, Kenwood doesn't just make some random 6" for Mazda, I bet.

As I said... I just got done putting 6.5" speakers in my doors. They're Polk slim-fit speakers, so the magnet clears the window. Prior to that I had some cheapy 6.5" speakers that also fit. If you're having an issue, you're buying the wrong speakers.

These are what are in my car: http://www.polkaudio.com/caraudio/db/index.php?s=db651s

Kind of an old thread but I just bought speakers from best buy today. I have a S5. The dash speakers are 4" for sure. The door and rear speakers they said are 5.25" but I haven't installed them yet so I'll let everyone know if they're the right size. I bought a set of pioneer speakers. They're way better than the stock ones!

And the other one that came out of my dash.

Yep, 6.5" will fit in the rear if you modify the bracket, I fit 6.5" in the doors of both my FCs, though they're S4s, it just takes a little work to make em fit.
