1990 Rx-7

I am going to purchase a Mazda RX-7 GXL Non Turbo. I want to do tons of mods to it but I want to ask what is the best twin turbo I can put on there, exhaust, or any other mod I can perform. I would like to know the place to get these products. Also, my friend has a 99 Civic Si. It is stock and so is my RX-7. Who would win?

if both cars are bone stock and the GXL is running up to par the SI will still pull on it a little bit. same hp...but they are a little lighter with shorter gear ratio's...

to twin turbo it would be a lot of work. some dudes in japan have done it and other order the TT Comso engine to drop in there...if you want to go the turbo route you're better off buying a Turbo RX-7 in the first place. the 89-91's are rare, but the 87-88's are easier to come across. then build up the car from there. i don't really see the point of twins when you can slap on a huge single turbo if the motor is built right

but, if you are sticking to the n/a performance level... www.rx7.com has some exhaust and other mods... as well as www.racingbeat.com www.rotormotorsports.com

good luck man

MazdaMan90,

Hey welcome to the forum.

Just keep in mind the GXL transmission, rear diff, and drive axel is not as heavy duty as the Turbo IIs. The NAs (non turbos) are fast sports car, but if you want above 200HP you'd spend less money & time overall by getting a TII.

The TII's drivetrain & trans is rated for 450+HP/ft-lbs torque. If your up to doing everything youself, then try to find a TII with a blown engine for cheap.

A NA (non turbo) with ported engine & chip (or carb) can make 180-200 rwHP

I think the 89-91 GXLs can beat any non/lite modded Civic. The GXL puts out 160hp in the 89-91 years.

Good news, lots of performance upgrades, accessories, bodykits, OEM & aftermarket parts, and tech info for the rx7s.

Check www.rx7.com for exhaust. Check www.mariahmotorsports.com for a sweet cold air box, stamped headlight air scoop, and perf intake.

That's the tip of the iceberg too. Lots more websites

Also keep in mind the rx7s are uncomprimising sports cars and the TII's a supercar. The civics SI is just a sports coupe.

The rx7s have worldclass handling, low drag, free revving engine, and an occult following. Even a turbo civic SI would get it's butt kicked in the twisties

any more questions?
