1990 Rx-7
Hey! Im new to the rotary world, and I have a couple questions:
Is the 13b rotary reliable?
Is it relatively easy to fix with the aid of a shop manual?
How much life can I expect out of a new 13b before any major repairs (I cruise, not race)?
How difficult is it to attach the intake manifold? A neighbor is selling his RX-7 (I want it) and thats all that needs to be done to make it run.
Oh, yeah, anyone know how well it works in the winter?
Any answered questions would be amazing. Thanx alot!

Reliability
Dude,
the reliability of the rotary depends a lot on how the prev. owner took car of it. See if he has the maintenance records. Just make sure to religiously change the oil, don't let it overheat and it can last 200k km...
Working in the RX isn't much more difficult than other cars, often the difficulty is diagnosing the problem, but that's where the forum really helps.
As far as winter driving...why would you want to drive a beautiful 1990 in the winter!!! Seriously though, i drove my crappy '86 here in Ottawa, and it started every time!!! Just let it warm up properly before you haul...

new engine
He says its a new 13b engine, never been used. I believe he knows how to take care of cars...he rebuilt a 72 Porche 911, and is Rebuilding a 69 Porche 911, and he used to professionally race an RX-7 (not this one). Ill ask him the history of it too, findout why it has a new engine. I do know that its from Alberta, no rust, new 4-piston brakes, drilled brakes, etc.....
Anyway, thanks for the help!

intake manifold isn't too hard, about 3hrs of work. just be sure to label all those vacuum lines!
my father and i were able to do it and neither of us had any rotary exp (we did have a hanyes and the mazda shop manual though). i would have been able to do it myself, but i'm a wuss when it comes to disconnecting the fuel lines.
