1990 Rear End Question

I am putting in a 1990 GTU rear end in 1987 RX-7 non turbo. Regarding the inboard CV Axle flanges, If I put in the turbo axles, will it work with my 4 lug hubs? If so, what do I need to know?

Eh...no. That's all that can be said.

I am putting in a 1990 GTU rear end in 1987 RX-7 non turbo

It's the SAME thing. Other than a very minor case difference, the 87 nonturbo and the 90 GTU will have the same standard 4.1 open differential. You're gaining nothing, but perhaps a lower mileage diff. Everyone swaps to either a nonturbo LSD diff, a 4.33 LSD (rare) diff, or they change to the turbo diff, along with the axles, driveshaft, trans, starter, clutch and flywheel stuff (yes, you must change all these items to change just one).

If I put in the turbo axles

You can't. They're shorter than NA axles. The turbo diff is wider than the NA diff, so the axle length is adjusted, AS WELL AS the diff axle flange bolt pattern.

will it work with my 4 lug hubs

Your hubs have no bearing on this at all. The axles use a spline just like any 4wd or fwd setup, and all the 2gen hubs have the same spline..any 2gen axle will fit them.

couldnt you just put a better LSD in and call it a day? or would you have to upgrade axles and tranny driveshaft etc. to handle more power?

You'd probably just want to take a 87-88 GXL Rear end (Clutch type LSD) and put it in your car. 90 GTU's had open differentials and would not be an upgrade.

Better LSD? There isn't one there now at all, unless the 87 is a GXL or has had one swapped in. Oh, show me an aftermarket LSD setup for under 500 bucks available for the FC. For 99% of streetcars out there it is not a worthwhile mod. Just get the stock s4 LSD for 100 bucks and go on with life. I have one I'll sell if anyone is interested.

She didnt mention needing more powerhandling. Most people swap the LSD for the handling/drifting/burnout aspect.

90 GTU's had open differentials and would not be an upgrade.
There an echo in here?

well, i asked about it though, so yeah with more power you would want to just swap the whole driveline? or just the diff?

If you are making enough power to break driveline parts in a non turbo FC.... you should upgrade to a TII driveline. But make sure your diff. mount is good before going through the trouble.
